Official Thread -- Wizards vs Grizzlies (1/18/17 7PM)

Post#1 » by montestewart » Tue Jan 17, 2017 8:04 pm

After two home victories against the Sixers and the Blazers, the Wizards face a more formidable opponent. The Grizzlies are 25-18 and are 11-10 on the road. They are currently on a 7-9 run, but they have recent road wins against the Warriors and Rockets.

I tried to locate a picture of a Wizard slaying a Grizzly, and all I came up with was this:

Not sure what the message is here. Maybe someone else can find a more inspiring image.

Would be good to see continued help from T-Stand, McClellan, Smith and Oubre, keeping the starters fresh. Maybe Morris will show up again and help against the beefy Memphis front. I'm hoping for at least a close game that the Wizards can steal at the end. Go Wiz!

PS: Wizards doing a little better lately. Those at the game can report whether it seems to be getting fuller at VC. Maybe BigA can do a secondary market report.

Not scared of this team at all. Conley is having a poor defensive season. Success will depend on how well our bench/Markieff defends Randolph.

The Memphis starters have missed a combined total of 48 games compared to our 7 yet they still have a better record than we do.

Their last 5 games are a mixed bag. They have beaten GS, Houston and Utah but lost to the Bulls and OKC. Last time we played them they beat us in OT. Looks like their starters are healthy now although Parsons has been struggling.

For most games, probably for all except the most high-demand opponents, there are still pretty significant swaths of seats that haven't been sold to begin with. Much of the 200s, the corner/end zone sections in the lower level (103-108-114-119), and the last 3-5 rows of the 400 level.

If the team stays over .500 and attains a comfortable playoff seeding, these will start to be picked up for at least some games, and the secondary market will get thinner. Especially in the lower level, these are pretty expensive seats. I wonder how many people there are who are going to pay $150-$200 to sit in the back of the lower center sections to see the Wizards play Indiana or Charlotte or whoever.

The Memphis game is a Red Level (lowest price) game. There isn't a huge secondary market inventory, and for the most part seats are priced pretty far below the box office prices. But there is a wide variation in pricing for equivalent seats, which makes shopping in map view on the Ticketmaster site so convenient. You just move your cursor over the seats to see the price.

I'd look at corner sections 102-109-113-120 for the best value for money. As of tonight there are 4 seats in 109 Row B for $50 apiece (the season ticket price is $80, not many of these are available single-game). Two seats in Box E Row EEE for $100 apiece (box office price is $279 for these). Pairs in Section 400 for $15-$18 ($35 box office).

I'll try to go to a game in the next few weeks and buy on F Street.

They stole the game against us last time (Gasol BS 3). Lets get them.

Yeah it is impressive that they were 7-3 without Mike Conley including a win against Golden State although had a number of soft wins during that stretch including 76ers, Magic, and Cleveland (no James, Irving, or Love).

Big similarity is that Marc Gasol has missed 2 games and John Wall has missed 2 games; both teams are 0-2 when their best player doesn't play. I believe Wall had something like 50 plus points against the Grizzlies when Gasol didn't play.

Gasol is hitting at least 3 threes for this comment.

The Wizards need to come out with a good start rather than dig themselves out of holes as see in the past. Other than that, the Wizards should be able to win this game as long as they dont turn the ball over and control the pace of the game.

Mahinmi sighting. Got there early to see him doing drills. Nothing too strenuous but at least he is doing something . Pretty high release on his shot.

Tomas actually does have a real jumper. Saw him shoot a couple of pullup J's that looked normal with good lift.

Does Mahinmi have a timetable to return? Preferably prior to April?
