GAMEDAY: Nuggets at Spurs

Post#1 » by -Sammy- » Thu Jan 19, 2017 5:32 am

WHEN: 7:30PM CT, Thursday, January 19, 2017
WHERE: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

This looks like it should be a semi-auto W, but Denver's been playing a bit better over the last couple of weeks, and the Nugs are riding a season-high-matching win streak, so let's hope the good guys don't forget to show up for this one. Can Kawhi stretch his over-30 scoring streak to five straight? Kawhi not?

This one isn't going to be easy. Denver's been on fire lately and they're offense is nearly unstoppable.

We need to limit them in transition and do everything we can to contain Jokic. Kid is dangerous.

We beat them exactly 2 weeks ago by 28. Took us a little bit to shake 'em off but when we did it wasn't even close again. Last game they hit us shot for shot

Gotta shake 'em early and let em know they aren't going off on us again

As long as Lee and Dedmon stay healthy, it could be a good thing

Lots of bright spots tonight. Kwahi, Lee(as usual), Murray, Dedmon, Ginobili.

I'm really concerned about the body language from LMA though. He's acting like he doesn't even want to be there. David Lee had to get on him to come up the floor after a turnover and he still didn't come. Timeout huddle and everyone is engaged and high-fiving except LMA who is alone at the end of the bench looking bored.

The Gasol injury is a great opportunity for Dedmon; let's hope he capitalizes on it and can maintain his production numbers over larger blocks of playing time.

I have the same concerns. LMA's always had a big ego, and I don't think he's ever gotten completely comfortable with the fact that despite getting paid like a franchise player, the system doesn't function like he's one. It's just the Spurs' way and we know Pop and R.C. made that clear to him during his free agency, but I suspect that he still half-expected to eventually become the #1 guy, and now that it isn't happening, his ego may be flaring up.

Kawhi is going to win MVP, I'm locking that in right now.

Need another big from the D-League without Pau for a couple of weeks. Four bigs is awfully thin, unless Anderson is going to get some minutes up front at the 4.

That'd be sweet, but I don't see it happening. I can't see him making 1st team all-NBA over Durant and LeBron, much less getting MVP. Besides that, Harden's got the stats, the narrative, and the team record; I think it's his year, as much as it kills me to see him win anything.

“Kawhi was super, but he’s getting paid to be super and he knows it, and he relishes the challenges and knows his responsibilities,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.

I think he is saying as much about Aldridge as he is Leonard here.

I'm usually not one for reading too much into things but I think your spot on. That really seems like a dig at LMA.

I was legitimately worried about this one especially with Pau and Tony out. But we overcame a sloppy start and got our **** together after Pops got tossed and finished strong.

The Positives:
- Kawhi - Another 30+ point game and another all around amazing performance.

- Murray - Hopefully this is glimpse of the future. He was under control, shot the ball with confidence, used his quickness and craftiness to make some excellent plays and held his own on the defensive end.

- Lee - Faried and Jokic were killing us on the glass early and Lee really stepped up his intensity level and put serious work in around the rim. Loved the way he chased after boards and finished around the rim.

- The bench - I was worried about the Nuggets bench out playing them but Manu, Dedmon and Simmons all had great games and really helped us secure this win in the 3rd.

The Negative:
- LMA - Like others have already said he did not look engaged, at all. I was really expecting him to step in this one especially after Pau got hurt. But he pretty much invisible.

- The first half - Wasn't pleased with it. The Nuggets weren't exactly playing great and we let them hang around.

Also Nikola Jokic is a monster. His passing and ability to finish around the rim are amazing.
