A look at how much the NBA has changed in just the past 4 years. AND, how it has not.
For the 2012-2013 season there were only 11 of 30 teams who averaged 100 PPG or more. There were also 18 teams who allowed their opponents less than 100 PPG.
As of right now in the 2016-17 season, there are 24 teams averaging over 100 PPG and a mere 3 teams allowing less than 100 PPG.
That is a HUGE change. But now for something that has not changed.
In 2012-13, the Nuggets averaged 109.7 PPG. Right now the Nuggets are averaging 109.7 PPG. Unfortunately, they are allowing 111.5 PPG whereas the 2012-13 Nuggets allowed only 104.4 PPG.
Fortunately, the Nugz are not likely to ever match their nearly unbelievable 1991 season when they averaged 119.9 points but gave up 131 points, included a record 107 points in ONE HALF.
Mike Malone, in his admittedly fairly short career as a head coach has never had a team who has averaged more points scored than allowed. It remains a mystery to me why anyone believes that he is a coach who can get a team to become a consistently disciplined, defense minded team.
Those coaches who can do so are almost extinct in the current NBA climate which highlights monster dunks first and 3 point shooting second. Defense, not so much. So we have the KING, Greg Popovich, Thibs in Minnesota, who is getting closer to break even with his young talent and Snyder with the Jazz and Fizdale with the Grizz -except when they play Denver - who are still providing effective defensive teams.
So either it was a huge mistake in firing Karl and/or else it seems about as likely that Kroenke is going to find and hire a good coach as it is that the Chicago Bears are ever going to acquire a quality QB.

They could have had me for 1/10th of what they paid him and I would have just used all of those veterans as my assistant coaches.

For sure - and that'd be pretty good plus they'd have saved money, which they seem to like.
