Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
I've been on the Issac bandwagon for awhile now. There was talk about him declaring for last year's draft, and I would have drafted him blind at #12. Looks like he's going to be a top 5 pick now.

Any of you seen him in action? Any thoughts on him?
I really like his game. The write up at nbadraft.net is not all that accurate in my opinion though. I don't feel like he is the ball handler or athlete that they make him out to be but what he can do at a very high level is shoot the three ball. At the next level I could see him turning into a poor man's Hedo Turkoglu which is fine by me with the 30th pick.

He is more of a combo guard than a pg but that is just fine on this team. He has the athleticism to guard opposing pg's and his shooting stroke looks pretty good to me.

Need to watch him. Is he like... a Clarkson-type offensively?

That is actually a decent comparison that I hadn't considered.

I've seen him in passing(like... not watching him specifically, more while watching other players). That's the type I remembered him being, but I wasn't sure.

I agree. I'd love to get a top 8 pick in this draft. I think the next tier starts at pick 8 or 9 but that next tier goes down for a looooong ways before it drops off again, and that 2nd tier is no chump change of a group either. Lots of super solid prospects.
TJ Leaf is another, not so exciting prospect that I think would it well with the Jazz. Another stretch 4 that get flat out shoot. Plays hard and can move on defense.
Jerry Sloan >>>>>>>> Everything else.

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
I'm not saying it happens. But DL has a history of being part of a good draft day trade. For all you guys watching a ton of video of these draft picks who would you trade up for? Let's assume someone realistic. So probably players projected in the 6-15 range. It's rare to see trades much higher.

If they have an inkling that Hill will want max and we won't be willing to give it to him, I will be targeting Frank Ntilikina. Because of the really strong draft this year, he might drop past top 10. I also don't think you will be able to trade up to top 10.
If mocks are correct I'd also trade up for either Bam or Giles or Robert Williams in the late teens. If Justin Patton declares, I'd give up both our picks to get him. Some people are extremely high on Thomas Bryant. He might be worth it too. This draft is really good on point guards at the top and on bigs in the mid-late first round.

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
Assuming next year's roster is:
Exum/Neto - ???Hill
Burks/Hood
Hayward/Johnson
Favors/Lyles - ???Diaw/Bolomboy
Gobert
That's 93M for the 9 mostly guaranteed guys plus cheap Neto, assuming Hayward sticks around for 30%. We can keep Bolomboy for cheap to make 10 spots. Jazz have two late first rounds and late second round picks.
Is it better to keep the four spots and take some flyers late in the first + second round? Given the depth chart at most positions, do the Jazz have development time for guys anywhere but backup center and maybe point guard?

Are you sure you counted Hill's future contract? We should be well above 93M if he gets one.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

I think that's why he put the question marks. As in he isn't counting the people with question marks towards the salary.

Could be. I thought the question marks would be after the player's name; as it is, it looks like an extra player should be where the question marks are. I'm seriously lacking coffee.

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
To clarify, Bolomboy/Diaw are non-guaranteed and are not directly counted in the 91M. Hill is not counted because it isn't clear the Jazz will sign him. So the 91M is just for the players before the ???. Hayward is included because I think he can will be shining all 3 billion of those pennies coming his way next year, but leaving him out gives 8 players and 61M in guaranteed salary.
Note, Ingles is also left off as an RFA. He'd add to the wing depth.
So anyway, the question with the draft prospects is how many the Jazz can actually hope to develop if they continue to be a top 4 Western Conference playoff team - what should the Jazz do with the 4 picks...

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
Seeing the salaries and the risk of Hill not resigning I would really think about Favs for CJ. He isn't a PG and his defense is bad, but he is cost controlled, and he is a great offensive player.
I could be wrong. But I can't help think it could be a good move.
And if Hill is going to resign for a reasonable amount(20 million)there would still be room for all of them. Hill, CJ, Hayward, Lyles, Gobert with Hood, Ingles, JJ, Withey coming off the bench.
