Millsap makes $20m this year and is probably going to want a max contract. At 31 years of age, do the Nuggets want to spend that many years for that much money on him? He's probably worth a max to a contender that needs a PF, but the Nuggets are a few years away from contending. He would get us into the playoffs, probably, but it would almost certainly result in a first round exit.

Can't say it the money that would bother me, it's the years. He'll be looking at a 5yr extension being it will be his last big contract and that's be too long IMO

I think Millsap stays in Atlanta, he and his agent probably reassured the management which is why he is reportedly not on the market. I would guess he gets the max for 4-5 years, and I am not interested at that kind of deal. He takes a max deal for 2 years with a team option on the 3rd than I am very interested.

Agreed, but this is probably his last big deal, can't blame a guy for wanting those extra years. The only reason Millsap would come here is his Denver roots. We're not close to contending (but is ATL ?) so I'm betting that would diminish our offer as well.

I agree that he is going to want those extra years, but my point is he may take a smaller contract to go to a contender, or he may take the largest deal he can get, and I think if the most the Nuggets offer is a 3 year deal with a team option on the last year than I doubt he leaves Atlanta for that when they will likely give him at least that.

I know Harris is playing well this season and has made giant leaps offensively but he still remains a negative defender and has been throughout his career. The eye test itself says that he has good defensive instincts but it is worrying that it doesn't affect the numbers. He's undersized and players will shoot over him but I do wonder how this gets corrected.

One of the problem with most defensive stats is that it is hard to account for teammates on the court and off the court. I mean if you look into all the advanced stats for years it has shown Chandler as a good defender but not great, partially due to backing up Gallo who was actually a good defender back in the Karl years. That being said I would say that Harris is an average defender at best, but the question is if it is lack of ability, the system that the Nuggets are running, or a coaching issue? Personally I don't think it is ability, I think it is coaching and system issues, up until about 2-3 games ago it seemed like nobody on the team even understood what the word defense was, and Harris is included with that.

If we were able to get an upgrade at SG I would not be upset, but this team has much more pressing needs if you ask me.

I wouldn't put too much stock in apm related stats for Harris either. He's been in and out of the lineup due to injury and we haven't been the model for lineup consistency, to put it lightly. Being in and out of the lineup doesn't just make it harder for the graphs to sift out impact, but also lowers the sample size considerably.

He passes my eye test if it's anything worthwhile. Don't forget he's got quite the wingspan; he can definitely bother taller players.

I'm not a statistics guru, but weren't Harris' defensive statistics pretty good 2 years ago?
Maybe someone could look at his year-by-year defensive statistics, but it sure looks to me like this is his worst year. Wondering why? Then again, Rebel seems to have addressed that.

Who do you guys see as your core moving forward? What do you envision your starting line-up will be 2 years from now (within reason)?

I'm curious as your team has so many appealing young assets outside of Jokic - Harris, Mudiay, Murray, Hernangómez, Barton, Beasley, and whatever Nurkic brings back in a trade. Plus Gallo, Faried (who has surprisingly been playing fantastic beside Jokic in the front court) and Chandler.

Future core players currently on the team (my opinion only here  ): Jokic, Hernangomez, Harris, Murray, Mudiay --- wish I could add Nurkic, but it's not looking like that will happen - hoping Beasley fits in there as a 4th guard --- add in stashed Cornelie (hopefully).

2 years from now?
Jokic
Cornelie/Hernangomez
??? ???
Harris/Beasley
Murray/Mudiay with Murray playing combo guard

Needs?
Backup center
PFs yet to be proven
SFs yet to be identified
Guards hopefully set

Nuggets looking to sign Johnny O'Bryant, a F/C. Maybe a prelude to a Nurkic trade ???

Said to be "backup" or "insurance" so that Gallinari & Chandler don't have to play out-of-position and in case Arthur's injury continues to be a problem. Hmmm, Hernangomez isn't an option?

Return to Denver Nuggets
