People the all star game is meant for fun. All pro teams is where career resumes gain reputation. That's includes defensive teams as well.

I stopped getting riled up over All Star selections years ago. It's a popularity contest point blank.

The only time to all star appearances post fan vote era seriously if the player has a insane amount appearances. Even then it would be hardly important in a resume debate.

Who the hell voted for Tyler Ennis besides Tyler Ennis
I really like this idea. The fan vote is ridiculous, and the players mostly got the top end guys right (no Zaza type votes), but the random dudes getting votes needs to stop.

Re: The Players Vote - SHAMEFUL
I think one reason the voting matters, at least a little bit, is that many players are judged on how many all-star appearances they had in their career. It's technically meaningless, but it does hurt your resume if you're left off the team.
That said, this reminds me of when I was in 8th grade little league and each team picked 2 guys from their team to go to the all-star game. The results came back and I was 3rd in voting, despite being one of the best pitchers and leadoff hitters in the whole league. The coach got really upset and confronted the whole team about it...some of our worst players got multiple votes, and he didn't want me to miss the game in my final year.
Luckily they let us send 3 guys, so I made it in...but now I definitely relate to all-star snubs every year, and especially this year with the player voting.

After all these years, between the fans, media, players and coaches. The coaches have probably done the best job.

If it wasn't considered a prime way to rate who was better/more deserving of honors, HOF etc., that would be easier to do.
As long as it's being considered a way to rate players, than the process used to select the guys really matters.

Well, I remember Isaiah Thomas just threatening to vote for all his teammates, and having all his teammates vote for him, so that may be the nonsense going on. Which seems like a fairly obvious "you can't vote for your teammates" fix.

If I were commissioner, I'd rig the All-Star game and the draft lottery.

Re: The Players Vote - SHAMEFUL
I was surprised that players were allowed to pass on voting. Figured it would've been mandatory where the team has to make sure everyone votes by the deadline.
Also, they should've narrowed down the list of players the NBA players could vote for. If they really wanted to vote for someone not on the list, they'd have to write it in.
Wonder if there will be changes next year.
[I did finally get over bad AS selections a few years ago. If you're looking at accolades for HOF level guys, all NBA is more prestigious and relevant.]

Re: The Players Vote - SHAMEFUL
Easy solution. Get rid of the whole grab ass platform that the game has become. Instead, provide some incentive for winning like one million for each player/coach to the winner, and then let the coach pick his own roster. Maybe limit him to 2 of his own players.
Problem solved.

New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Re: The Players Vote - SHAMEFUL
That's still a 71.8% voter turnout and I think public opinion is the starters that were voted in were the consensus picks (except for maybe Curry over Westbrook).
Not to get political, but in comparison your country only had a 54.4% turnout to vote for its leader for the next 4 years and got it horribly wrong. That's more shameful.

Re: The Players Vote - SHAMEFUL
nobody except internet forum dwellers care about the all star game. players only want it as something to put on their CV & to market their personal brand.

11 different Lakers were voted to start the all-star game. Finally the future is bright.
