Sad...

How is that in the last 2 years 3 high end prospects/players have passed away. Never seen anything like this.

Wow. Ventura had his run-ins with the Jays, but it was all entertainment for us fans. I enjoyed watching him pitch. Rest in peace.

Man, it's crazy. Especially considering that Oscar Taveras (who also died in a car crash a couple of years back) was one of Ventura's friends. Really hoping alcohol wasn't a factor here.

Ventura used to head hunt guys with 98 mph fastballs, and he was drunk when he crashed? Not sure how much sympathy I can have for this guy.

RIP Yordano. Great talent, controversial is part of his story as well.

Before getting overly judgmental on youngsters who make mistakes, I think many of us would have many some really bad decisions in our mid 20's if you gave us more money, fame, and free time.

The guy threw at people's heads on purpose. He started several feuds by doing that. Based on his actions on and off the field, we're lucky he only killed himself. I'm not saying I'm happy he died or something.

I agree with vaff87. What if it was a family member of yours he killed in a car accident? Would you feel sympathy for him then?

I have no sympathy for drunk drivers who get into accidents. If you drink, don't drive. Period.

So how many people have been killed by baseball players driving cars/boats drunk, while we currently hand out 30+ game suspensions for unverified accusations of domestic abuse?

what he was doing on the field should have nothing to do with a sympathy for a person who has died with something totally unrelated. Yeah, he threw at Jays players but that means nothing in the big picture. Its a game.

Second, there is a tweet from a Dominican reporter himself up top that says there is no legit DUI system in the DR.

I'm not advocating for drinking and driving, i'm saying a human being has died, mourn the loss. We do not know YV as a person, but countless MLBers poured support for him, if you have no sympathy for him don't post in the thread.

On another note, I saw a picture ( don't know how to post it) of Ventura paying tribute to Fernandez and Oscar Tavares[ on his hat ( during the same game). Now he's gone too. So much loss in the sporting world.

Forget suspensions, there should be mandatory jail time for DUIs.

I don't think it's fair to compare the two. If he had gotten into an accident while driving drunk and caused injury or death while surviving himself, he would be being criminally prosecuted right now. He wouldn't even be allowed back into the United States, let alone play in MLB.

With unverified cases of domestic abuse, the criminal system can't do anything, but MLB still has to act in order to show that they're tough on the issue.

He threw 98 mph fastballs at guys heads on purpose. That is legit risking players safety. People can die from that. This guy tried to hurt people.

right......and what he means by that is people often get away with driving drunk in the DR, celebrated athletes like ventura even more so. the lack of legit DUI enforcement leads to a staggering amount of vehicular fatalities in the DR.

you're getting "DUI system" confused with a toxicology report, or straight up common sense using smell
