With Johnson missing his third game, the Heat could receive another exemption to add a player to the roster. Miami was allowed to add a 16th player under the league’s hardship exception because of Richardson’s injury. Now, if it is determined that Johnson cannot play for another two weeks, Miami could add another player.

Forward Okaro White was signed from Sioux Falls to a 10-day contract a week ago. Guard Briante Weber likely would be next in line if the Heat need to bring up a guard. Weber, who is averaging 15.8 points in 26 games for Sioux Falls, is the top-rated prospect in the D-League.

Might be a good time to sneak up Briante.

So much is wrong here.

There is no such thing as a hardship exception. The NBA may allow a team, in case of hardship, to temporarily have a 16 man roster, but it's not an exception. The only kinds of "exceptions" are salary exceptions and these allow teams to sign players outside of cap space. All injured player exceptions must be petitioned before Jan 10, so that isn't right either though.
