He broke out of his shooting slump. Maybe up for MVP honors?

Unless Giannis Antetokounmpo goes through a horrible slump he's almost guaranteed those honors.
Beal is starting to live up to his contract but I'd say that as far as improvement goes, he probably even trails Porter on his own team.
Good to great season nonetheless.

Idk man, you could make an argument for Porter being the Wiz MIP
Turned himself into one of the best 3 pt shooters in the league, does more defensively, and always hustles.

Let Giannis have it, Beal and Porter can split up 2nd and 3rd, a stealth one-two punch that leaves chips without dip on their shoulders
Bradley and Otto. Even the names sneak up on you. "Oh, that's just Bradley and Otto," then, KAPOW!

Idk man, that chart is a little sad. I didn't know Bradley was that bad on defense. Hard to be excited for just offense.
Meanwhile, Otto is a stud!

While I love Brad's improvement this season. His defensive shortcomings haven't improved since the team reshuffled the frontcourt last year. I think you gotta go with OP as the the Wizards MIP this season.

It is a little surprising, but understandable given the fact that Brad doesn't really have any elite measurements at his position. Him and Hanlen are going to have to go back to the drawing board next season.

He's only 21 silly.
Oubre strikes me as a very good offensive player, or at least he will be good. He really understands the value of 3 point shots and shots at the rim and hes getting better at knowing when to shoot and when to drive. He still needs to learn not to throw up a prayer when hes well contested at the rim and instead pass it to the open man.

I've never seen him as that bad defensively. His numbers are hurt by playing a lot of minutes with the crappy bench unit.
J Michael often does a little video breakdown of each game, and he's quick to point out who played well/poorly on the defensive end, and Beal and Wall have been pretty good on D during this turnaround.

Beal is not a bad defender in terms of being limited by physical tools. Unlike players such as CJ McCollum (too slow and small) and Isaiah Thomas, Beal can't be "abused" or "exposed". On the contrary, he seems to be a good-great defender when locked in. The best examples are the Hawks/Toronto series.
I can't pinpoint why his stats in that graph are so bad. His DRPM is fine albeit a little below average.

Agreed. When I watch Beal, I think he passes the "eye test" on defense. I feel like he has been much more engaged defensively, getting lower in his stance and generally taking more pride in defense. He's done a nice job on guys like James Harden in the past, and he spent some time guarding Isaiah last night.
I always take statistical analysis of defense with a grain of salt because there just aren't many defensive box score statistics available, and the ones that are available often reward gambling instead of sound position defense.
FWIW, Beal fares pretty well in ESPN's DRPM. Out of 52 shooting guards who average 20 or more minutes, Beal ranks 21st in DRPM.

Re: Bradley Beal for MIP
Interesting.. DRPM basically hated him prior to this season I think.
Beal has quick feet + hands and is really good for switching screens on the perimeter. When I stream games with the opposing team's broadcast, they often point that out. I remember the Bulls announcers even said "Beal is Washington's best perimeter defender" , so it seems around the league he's generally thought of highly there.
His main weakness is defending bigger/stronger wings. He defends like-sized and smaller players pretty well.

I love it when we put Brad on opposing point guards, he's actually a surprisingly good matchup against Russell Westbrook. Part of it is just better effort staying infront of the ball than John, but you're on to something here
