How much do you value Biyombo
We have a never ending debates in Raptors forums who would be better for us JV or Biyombo. Seems like posters are split in half. We have a huge hole in defending p&r and JV clearly sucks in this regard but he is pretty good in boxing out for rebounds and offensive play while Biyombo is/used to be better in stopping p&r. There are quite few posters who regrets we let Biyombo to go out instead of JV while other posters feels Biyombo was overrated and not worthy of 17Mils a year.
Since I don't follow Orlando play I would like to ask your opinion how much do you value Biyombo and how good defensively he is?
Thanks.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
I don't value him much. He is decent on defense. He isn't a huge difference maker though. And just a complete negative on offense.
From what I see, the half that prefers BB is absolutely crazy. Then again, he'd probably look much better on a good team like yours.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
I value him a lot because he plays great with Elfrid and AG out there. The problem is that we don't have enough offense around him yet, so people don't appreciate what he can do.
His offensive rebounding is fantastic. Energy is great. Sets real screens, not fake ones that don't do anything. Can switch on to any player 1-5. Additionally, he is not good at offense, but his PPG has gone up every year, and he is only 24. He can get better still, as he started playing ball later in life.
I believe he spends the summer with our staff and improves on both ends. I think the people that already wrote him off here already are crazy, but this place is filled with knee jerk reactions and zero patience.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
I personally love Biz. He was playing injured earlier this year and his production went down. Now he has been playing much better. His energy and effort are picking up to what got him the starting spot earlier this year. Not untradeable but I would trade Ibaka dn Vuc before Biz. If we ever get some offensive talent in this team, Biz could play an integral role. He should be part of the core going forward.

I'd take JV over him without a second thought. Much better player.

Biz is extremely valuable to what we want to do and what we will do in the coming years.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
Biz is a niche player. He only works when surrounded by players who compliment him. Ibaka can shoot 3s and Vuc is great in the mid range game so I see where Henny was going but really that offensive game should be lead by your wings.
Biz was perfect next to Kyle / Derozen. I think Biz would also be fantastic in Portland with their backcourt duo. Assuming signing him doesnt hinder your ability to keep the strong guard rotation, I really think he would earns every penny on teams like those.
We don't have the guard play for Biz to be Biz. The ball ends up in his hands (or bouncing off them) more than they ever should because we lack playmakers.
So I fully understand anyone here who is frustrated with Biz. But I'm a big fan of Biz and I know a lot of changes are coming for the Orlando roster. With some great high scoring wings coming in this draft maybe we can be a team that utilizes him properly before all is said and done.

I "like" him, but we're paying a ton of money to a defensive specialist who comes off the bench for a bad team. A bad team that isn't playing defense...or blocking many shots. So I can't really get too excited about him.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
He's been much worse this year than last. This injury is part of the problem. Part of it is little bit worse of a fit without two guys that command so much attention. Hopefully it gets better. He's brought the motor a little bit more lately.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
I supported the Biz signing and I don't think he's appreciated here yet because our team is so dearth of offense that our fans want every player to be able to score. When in the right situation, Biz is EXACTLY what you want because he doesn't score... or I should say... he doesn't take shots away from your guys who need the shot volume in order to carry your team.
If he's surrounded by scorers then Biz is awesome because he can then focus on what he does best...make energy plays, momentum changing plays, grab boards AND you can put him on the perimeter or the post to defend.
It's all about piecing this team together and right now, since we're in rebuilding/development mode our picture isn't complete. A lot of our fans thought this team WAS complete... or at least close to it, that's why there is a lot of frustration. The reality is, this team was built to go as Payton and Gordon go... and they have been inconsistent. Injuries have also hurt us, but that's basketball.

Re: How much do you value Biyombo
On our team he looks better as a backup where his energy stays high and defense makes more impact. Got exposed and looked average at best as a starter. He's back to looking like Biz now that he's in his usual backup role. Perhaps he can grow into the role as an impact starter, but I don't think that's a given... not for our team. Right now I'd classify him as a developing player along with Elf, AG and Mario. Probably makes more sense for you guys with two star guards. It's interesting that half your board thinks he's overrated since he looked a lot better on the Raps than he has on the Magic. And yes, he still has trouble catching the ball.

overpayed bench big who cashed in his lottery ticket of 1 good playoff series. Should be a 10-20 mpg backup at $8-10mil/yr at most

I picture tiderulz as the grumpy old man sitting on a porch screaming at kids as they pass by while being completely unable to relate to the modern day.

Although I tend to agree to what he is saying about Biz, this made me laugh...

Aww, that isn't right. No seriously, you should omit the word "basketball" from your final sentence. It will make for a more factually robust statement.

He's Dewayne Dedmon, just playing more minutes and cashing a bigger paycheck. Actually think Dedmon's better offensively.
