Curious. Did you predict no Horford signing?
Nah, didn't make a call either way. I vehemently denied the possibility of Durant until he set a meeting up with us and then I flipped, Horford stuff came up quickly after that and didn't have time to make a call.
FWIW I also vehemently argued against Dwight coming here, and also explained that Ainge would never bring him here (believe it or not, half the forum wanted him last year). He didn't.
Long term, Howard wouldn't make us a championship team, but overall his contract isn't bad and if he was on our roster over Zeller and Amir right now, we'd probably be right there with the cavs in the standings.
Horford and Howard would fit well. Why the Hawks wanted him to stay with Howard and shipping out milsap instead.

Cleveland Gets - Melo & AB
NYK Gets - Olynyk, Rozier, Zeller, Jerebko, MEM Pick & BOS 2018
Deal probably needs to be tweaked some, but Boston gets a 2nd scorer and very good rebounder (2 problems solved)... Not sure how useful Shumpert is, but Cleveland has to somehow match salaries. Cleveland gets LeBron's buddy, Melo, and upgrades at the 2, with a guy who can guard Steph Curry in the Finals. NYK dumps salary, gets some young guys and picks, and can tank for a higher 2017 draft pick. They're only 4.5 games from having the 2 worse record and this is an ideal year to tank.
Lineup is then: Horford, Love, Crowder, Smart & IT, Bench is thin w/ Amir, Mickey, Brown, Shumpert, Green, Young, and Jackson
Cap space is gone, but still have assets to get Jimmy Butler. Also, Love & Horford's contracts align, but not sure if any good free agents will be available in a few years with the new CBA.

Him being an expiring should cut that price down to something not nearly so costly, in my view. I think he'd be a good fit, too. I think the most I'd do is Zeller, Olynyk, one non BKN first, and the '17 Min 2nd. Really about as much as I'd risk while there's a possibility of him walking in a few months. Even then, I'd be hesitant to do it without an assurance that he'd re-sign. Yeah, we have a lot of assets, but no sense in essentially wasting them for a few months of this guy.

He would move the needle, we would pass Raps, and play in the ECF.

What body part do you injure?
You want it to be serious enough to squash any possibility of that trade, but not too serious so you can be back in time for the playoffs. Maybe a shoulder injury? Make it seem chronic/related to the KO-inflicted one?
Actually, a Love injury is the one way it could happen, like Ratliff/Mutombo.

I don't think level one is an overpay at all. Likely winds up a late 1st and a couple 2nds. Magic only pick up the phone for that if they're pretty sure they're losing him for nothing, and nobody else is stepping up to offer more.
Honestly don't even think level two is an overpay. Olynyk and Rozier become obsolete in quite a few possible futures, and let's be honest, Yabs is a huge unknown - China can't tell us as much as we wish it could.
But either way, we can afford to overpay with the mid-tier stuff for a gambit like this. I'm not even touching Zizic or the MEM pick, let alone BRK picks / Brown / our core guys.

What's the gamble? You're worried about the cap space?
