3 degrees of Franchise Draft - Draft

Post#1 » by BdeRegt » Thu Jan 26, 2017 4:06 pm

Let's get this underway.

I bet you guys already know the drill, but I just wanted to remind you of these things:

1. You can draft any player, and any season of his career between 1949-50 and 2015-16

2. You have to draft 8 players, maximum amount of 90.0 total FGA. All FGAs will be taken from basketball reference

3. Each of your successive picks must have played for the same franchise at some point between 1949-50 and 2015-16. For example, if you select Tim Duncan first, your next pick must have played for the Spurs. If your second pick was Dennis Rodman (SAS 94/95), your third pick could have played for either the Spurs, Bulls, Pistons, Lakers, or Dallas. This continues until you make all 8 selections.

4. If you draft a player from pre-merger, you have to multiply his FGA by 0.85. This is an incentive for you guys to draft older players and don't make this game skewed in favor of modern players, too much.

5. We will use ABBAABBA format.

6. For each pick, you have 3 hours to make your selection. Clock is inactive from Midnight - 8 AM EST. If you miss your window, you can jump in to pick at anytime.

7. Please quote the next person after making your selction.

8. For franchise changes/list, we will use basketball reference: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/

9. All players on your team must play at least 8 minutes in the rotation

In the link below, you can see how the teams are shaping:

Gives me a lot of options going forward and, well, he is Shaq.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

2012-13 LeBron James for me. I know I could've picked someone who gave me more options for my next pick, but I figured the pick was going to be low and I can't pass up building around peak LeBron.

I'll go Wilt the Stilt.

You can quibble about his issues over the coarse of his career in terms of disposition and attitude, but not in the 1966-67 season, which is one of the best two way seasons any player has ever put together.

Low FGA impact, decent franchise versatility, dominant player. Yes, please.

I can keep going back and forth with this but this feels like the right pick to me right now. Give me:

I am ignoring the conditions of the draft and simply taking the best player available. I choose Magic Johnson.

I'll take Bill Russell. Relatively low FGA, and he is one of the best. There are many Celtic greats. Not too worried about catching somebody on the flip side.
