I really wish we, as a fanbase, could've enjoyed some winning basketball with Melo as our Alpha Dog. As much as I hate seeing Melo's time come to an end, the direction the franchise needs to take has never been clearer.

With KP and Billy and our 1st round pick this year [which could be a top 10 pick, potentially, via the tank]. That's a solid start. Assuming we let Rose walk, we'll be a team with cap space (yes, the Noah deal is trash but I think it can be moved in a year or two), youth, and our draft picks.

Given that, piecing together trade rumors and math...it appears that these are the two deals we're looking at.

Assuming Melo is willing to waive his NTC in either of these scenarios. Which do you pick?

Clippers Offer:
Rivers (24 years old) will make 11.8M next season and then has a player option for 12.6M the following season.
Crawford (36 years old) will make 14.2M and 14.5M for the next two seasons.
2020 1st round pick
2021 1st round pick

OR

Boston Offer:
Amir Johnson (29 years old), expiring contract after this season.
Jae Crowder (26 years old) 6.7M next season, 7.3 M the following, 7.8 mill after that
Jerebko (29 years old) expiring contract after this season
2018 1st round pick (BKN pick) [They aint coming off that BKN pick this year for Melo. We can let go of that pipe dream]

Melo is actually playing quite well - passing, rebounding, defending
the media has been up his a$$ about trades and he's been all class



meanwhile

Melo makes 5 mil a year more than Noah but there is zero talk about Noah and his contract
Phil has been invisible this whole time, which to me is really unacceptable
Phil has totally spoiled the relationship now and its gotten to the point where we dont have the option of trading Melo we now have the urgency to do so and that never leads to a good trade
Teams see this mess and players see this mess and none are gonna bend over backwards to make things better for us


Phil has screwed this up, not melo

and fans who just want Melo "the crybaby" or whatever gone are not thinking clearly
nor are fans who think picks are some magic bean that can't fail

Trading Melo to LA won't get us anything valuable

the only destination worth anything is Boston and that should make every real Knicks fan nauseous

This is refreshing, NLR. I really truly don't understand the angst toward Melo. He's very flawed, yes, but the man is being a real pro about everything. People are so blinded by his failures that they fail to comprehend that he is the reason we haven't been the absolute worst team in the league these past few years.

Getting fleeced in a deal just to move him would make no sense. I want a young player who might not be seeing playing time, or I want picks. Regardless of what ends up happening with him though, I'm rooting for that man to succeed (except in Boston).

Melo still has value. His contract looks fine. He would probably add 5-10 wins any team he goes.
Problem is Knicks suffer from extra wins.

When you're 40-50 win team Melo would be good addition.
However its negative for us. 35 win season is a disaster if you compare it to 20 win season.

We need to tank. There isnt any other magical way to get star players here. Lets dont waste KP's career like we did Melo's.
