Let's not underestimate that this man was DPOY, and is a fierce competitor. Having his bum azz rooting from the bench and showing fire and desire is far from the worst possible scenario. The contract happened, it sucks. Its in the past. Nobody else will trade for him. Let's just move forward already!
 
We can't basically do the same for Melo? Hell, he's actually productive.
 
Melo staying on the team prevents us from beginning a legitimate rebuild. We're currently stuck in no-man's-land and perennial mediocrity. Do you not want to maximize the talent we acquire through the draft for the next few years and build a young core with KP? The way I see it now, we have two options:
Keep Melo: End in the 12-20th pick range every year he's on the team.
Trade Melo: End in the 5-10th pick range for the next few years.
That makes a massive difference.
