Oscar list is out. Not many surprises other than maybe La La Land's record-tying nominations. Overall it's your standard Oscar candidacies, but a very 'meh' field to me nonetheless.

I loved Arrival so hopefully that can score a couple wins at least.

Started watching The Expanse after seeing a few places calling it the best sci-fi show on TV. I don't know if that's true, but it's good. Three episodes in and there's some legitimately WTF moments.

After Goliath and while considering to start Night Manager, another Amazon prime series caught my eye.
Sneaky Pete ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5011816/ ) , starring G.Ribisi, B. Cranston (also produced), M.Martindale.
Just finished the 3rd episode and it's very good.

Yeah, not too many huge surprises aside from Ruth Negga's nomination, which was awesome. I'll be happy with any of "La La Land," "Manchester by the Sea" or "Moonlight" winning, which seems like almost a certainty.

Finally watched X-Men Apocalypse. Normally I'm first in line for super hero flicks but I skipped this one because I didn't love Days of Future Past, but I really liked this one. Maybe my 2nd favorite of the entire series.

Haven't paid much attention to the Oscars in many years. It's just a big Hollywood circle jerk. Winners are either political or some sort of film about how hard it is to be in Hollywood. Yawn.

That's about half of what one movie is about. And it's really kind of a stretch to say it's even "about" that.

Anyone watching The Young Pope? I'm not Catholic, but I've always found the machinations behind the Catholic Church fairly interesting. Beautifully shot show, but definitely weird as **** sometimes.

I've seen the first episode and agree with you. Not religious at all and the cultish church give off some creepy vibes.

Also watched Beware the Slenderman (HBO Documentary) about the girls in Waukesha who stabbed their classmate. Very good documentary. Highly recommend it. Raises some very tough/important questions about the criminal justice system, specifically how to handle juveniles.

'Deadwood' feels like the prequel to 'Justified'. I'm loving it. Season 1 finale on now. Some of the best characters written for any medium.

Saw Lala land coz of the Oscar hype. Wife, myself, not even daughter really got into it.

I knew it was a musical, but didn't realize it was an old style musical with jazz being the main thing. I'm not really into jazz much. I don't miss the old classic musicals either.

Just wasn't my thing. Don't understand how it tied titanic in nominations.

I think Deadwood is my favorite show ever. Haven't seen any of Justified.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Genre. A great musical is probably going to have great below the line work, so stuff like cinematography, sound, costumes, etc; plus two song nominations. Same with "Titanic." The real impressive one is "All About Eve," which shares the record because it had 5 acting nominations.

I agree with that and I'm only one season in.

He's certainly up there with Boyd Crowder, Walter White, and maybe Omar. I'd love a list. I could change my vote on that for days.
