Holy hell the Hornets closed at 9.5 point underdogs. How sick of a cover was that

Eh, lebron won a very legitimate title last year. That cavs team isnt in the playoffs without him

I don't know about the last part but I agree with the first part.

I also have a hard time criticizing GSW for Durant, since he's pretty much the only significant FA signing they've had with their current core. They built their team the right way, and not through a bunch of super team FA arrangements.

They and BOS are also about to have a new challenge of how to manage so many big salaries - both teams have had the luxury of having major contributors play on very far below market deals, and that luxury is about to go away.

In regards to Cliff's comments, which are refreshing...

We may not be the Bobcats from 5 years ago, but we sure as hell are the ~45 win team from the past 4 years. I think the fans expectations are right in line with what this team is capable of achieving as currently constructed.

Bottom line is we need better players if we want to expect better results. I don't look at this roster and see an team that is underachieving and should be a 55 win team.

Not that he'd ever waive his no-trade clause to play here, but just for **** and giggles, what would be your best offer to the Knicks for Melo?

Yes or No

Batum for Melo
Kemba for Melo
MKG + Frank for Melo
Marvin + 2017 unprotected for Melo

I disagree, at least when it comes to our starting lineup. Our starting lineup makes so much more sense now and is so much more effective than it was in the 2013-14 season.

Plug that starting lineup of Kemba jacking shots at sub-40% FG and 30% 3PT next to Hendo, MKG, Cody, and Al this season and we would get slaughtered and be no where close to the playoffs.

Only the last one, and even that would be scary. Melo is about as worthwhile as Rudy Gay nowadays in my opinion.

One way to look at it:

I think you could talk everyone on this board into a Batum for Melo five beers in, the train of thought being that Batum's contract will age badly and this is a neat way to get out of it.

BTW, I meant to post the Melo talk in the trade thread, not the GT. My bad.

agreed. It's getting to the point where his negatives are starting to outweigh the positives

No
No
No
Yes

If we're going to trade nic, Kemba or even frank/Mkg, I'd rather it be for a younger player with some upside. Have no problem shipping off Marvin and the pick for him however since they're both over 30yo and the pick would likely be in the 20s. That said, NY can probably do better

I wouldn't do any of these deals. The only one id consider is batum to get him off our books.

Melo kinda sucks now

I think you could possibly salary dump Melo in the offseason but certainly before the trade deadline

lol no

f*ck no

hell no

definitely not

you could talk me into Hawes+Hibbert+Sessions+Lamb+lotto protected 1st for Melo+O'Quinn after a few tequila shots but I'm not touching our starting five for Melo.

Melo will never say yes to a trade to Charlotte, which is probably for the best anyway

There are places where Melo can still be a really good player and help his team win games, Charlotte is probably not one of them. Our starting five is good without him and probably gets worse with him. Our second unit could benefit but Melo isn't coming off the bench anywhere, and definitely not here.
