Bring in Melo
Why not?
For Crawford and Austin?
Let's do it.

Re: Bring in Melo
I'm definitely down to bring in Melo. I'm dying to see a different look for this team. This would justify a 1st rounder imo.. doc giving away first rounders in the Dudley and Jeff Green trades were asinine

Don't touch the core four and you might as well trade away anybody for him

Re: Bring in Melo
What do we need at the wings? Youth, athleticism and defense. What does Melo provide? Chucking and nothing else. Plus he's old and on a horrible contract.
You think the prospect of rolling with Luc is bad come playoff time? Imagine what the likes of Kawhi, Hayward and Durant would do against Melo's "defense." On top of that, he'd be depriving Blake of even more touches while chucking at a low efficiency.
We need to stand pat and stop being fooled by names. There is no magic bullet that's going to turn this roster into a true title contender. Sorry, but it's the truth.

Melo can be a very good spot up shooter- he has performed very well in that role during the Olympics. I think if the trade is Crawford and Rivers for Melo, you have to do it. AN added benefit as well is that Melo is good friends with CP3. I think it increases the chances that CP3 will stay if they get Melo.

Re: Bring in Melo
I am 100% onboard with this one, especially given that the Clippers won't have to trade one of the big 3 for him. Whatever people say about Melo, he is still an elite isolation scorer from the wing. It is the NUMBER ONE need of the Clippers, make no mistake about it.
Melo has also NEVER been on a team as stacked as the Clippers in the NBA, and he will get many more open looks having options like CP3/Blake/DJ around him. Melo has always performed well in the Olympics when he has an all-around team surrounding him. It may take a few games for hm to gel with the team, but I can only see this helping in the playoffs, where defenses tighten up and the ability to score tough baskets in the halfcourt becomes a premium.
This will be an unpopular opinion, but I would rather trade Redick instead of Austin if it came down to it. Austin will help the Clippers a lot more in the playoffs, where it matters the most. Redick would also fit with the Knicks a lot better around Rose/Porzingis, and it could be a win-win deal for both teams.

I root for players always, organizations sometimes.
I don't know how I'm ever going to forgive the Clippers' new front office.

lol no it wouldn't. rose sucks and reddick isn't moving the needle for us. if it's anything it'll be addition by subtraction for us. you guys make out like bandits cause we're in a very precarious situation. nothing more nothing less. congrats.

Bring in Melo
Any trade will involve Redick which hurts, but as another poster said above it's time for a new look.
It is going to take something like JJ, JCraw (for salary match), and 1 or 2 1st round picks.
For the Knicks to say they want to discuss a trade that doesn't involve Big 3, is a real opportunity for us to try to move the needle.

Re: Bring in Melo
I'd be fine with it, as there aren't really a ton of options to make a change without trading one of the teams best players, and you won't get max value trading any of them. There's some possibility that Melo helps, though even if he helps on offense, I can't really picture how he would fare on defense. Defense would be the main issue, they will really need to find ways to mix and match the matchups to maximize the defense. There's also the possibility that he is below average on defense and even in a different role and playing off Paul and/or Blake he's still not very efficient but is taking a lot of shots which becomes an issue.
Both are possible, whichever one happens, he'd be around a maximum of 2.5 seasons, so it's not going to handicap anything in the future unless the team stupidly trades like 5 draft picks (which they won't). Outside of that, this team wasn't going to have cap space anytime soon, and it's even been made more difficult to sign other teams FA's anyways.

you know nothing about Melo's game if you think he only provides chucking. He can shoot, pass and rebound with anyone at his position maybe outside of LeBron. Defensively, well the Knicks are taught bad defense, Melo isn't exactly a world beater at his best but when he's locked in he's not the liability guys make him out to be.

Re: Bring in Melo
I'm fine with trading for Melo if we aren't giving away Chris, Blake, or DJ.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Re: Bring in Melo
It couldn't hurt if we aren't going to lose any of the big 3. If the Knicks are really that hell bent on moving Melo. I think in big game situations, Melo would be the guy you give it to for desperation iso plays. We all know CP3 and Griffin are not the best in those type of scenarios. Like og15 said, this probably does nothing for our defense, though.

Re: Bring in Melo
Melo is not exactly the perfect fit, but the players that would be aren't walking through that door. Melo has his critics, but he's still a good player even with his flaws. Getting him for the types of packages that would likely be in play are a no-brainer imo.
At the very least, it likely erases any doubts that CP would have in leaving in the off-season.

Re: Bring in Melo
I'm not too big on how much he'd improve the Clippers, he's a big name and would certainly be a boost to many aspects of the offense, but he wouldn't be as significant an improvement as his big name suggests. For one, it'd mean a lot less Luc, which would lower our defensively ceiling in a massive way.
I'm ok with giving a 2021 pick for him and some combination of Austin-Jamal-Wes-Pierce, but I wouldn't include Redick or more than one pick. But I'm afraid they might give up much more than that if it goes down in the end.
You mean certainty right?
That is a very good point and the main reason I'm ok with giving a pick for him

Re: Bring in Melo
Let's face it, even at full strength, we will struggle to get out of the WCF. We need to change things up. If we don't lose any real value and get Melo in return then it's a no brainer. Otherwise we will just do well but fall short. CP is old and we need to be in 'win now' mode. It's a higher chance that CP will walk than a top 5 player coming and joining us so let's just roll the dice.

he wouldn't be doing any offensive heavy lifting if he's got chris paul and griffin on the team. he'll be fine defensively.
