If OKC were to win sub 50 games and finish as the bottom 4 seed, would this hurt Russ' case?

Yes it would. I don't think an MVP has ever had a non to-2 record in their conference.

On a side note...if the Spurs win 62+, and only have 1 All Star...what does that do to Kawhi's MVP chances?

Harden singlehandedly beat the Sixers tonight, 51 points 13 rebounds 13 assists. Our next best player was Nene who literally scored all of his points solely due to Harden, so give Harden credit for another 20 points. Clear MVP.

Harden is now the first player in NBA history to have multiple 50 point triple doubles in a season in NBA history

Harden is first player in NBA history to have multiple 50 pts triple double in the same season. He also tied with Oscar for most 40pts triple doubles in the same season too.

ELIAS: James Harden's 5th 40-point triple-double of the season ties an NBA record, set by Oscar Robertson in 1963-64.

It would be tragic if Harden does not win the MVP this season (assuming he stays healthy and keeps up this level of play).

James Harden is better than Steve Nash ever was.

One has to wonder are Westbrook and Harden really that great or NBA has regressed, I guess both. I watch Harden's highlights and the quality of the game looks comparable to a pick-up game. Since I don't follow NBA that much anymore, what happened to zone defence ? Was it forbidden, so individuals can put up ridiculous stats ?

The NBA has regressed? The NBA has literally never been more talented and athletic than it is today. Stop.

If you read more carefully you will understand I meant the overall team play of NBA teams. Can you show me a single play from the highlights where Harden scores on a good team play different from a basic pick and roll ?

They're playing well, but Rockets roster isn't overflowing with star talent and Harden is their pg. He's not going to get set-up for a 50 point game. Who gets 50 points that way? The pick and roll is still a team play and the zone isn't a factor. Guys like Harden would destroy a zone. Hell, 3pt shooting teams like the Warriors, Rockets, ect. would decimate a zone defense. In the 3pt heavy nba it's somewhat of a outdated defensive scheme.

Back before the 'regression' you're talking about (that never happened, defenses are smarter than ever and Zone defense is still allowed, offenses are just equally smarter, and it's extremely hard to defend teams from the paint to the three point line) guys scored 50 point on 'simple' isolations , not a team play. Scoring 50 doesn't happen through a naturally flowing offense.

Also, how can you say the game has regressed but you also don't keep up with it

And you'd still be wrong. NBA defenses have never been as sophisticated, as lengthy and athletic as they are today. The only difference is that offenses are using more of the court (imagine that) and stretching defenses out - which has put an emphasis on defenders that can cover more space and switch efficiently.

What an MVP race it would be if KD and Curry elevate their play for the second half of the season and have the top record in the NBA.
