The Official 2017 Tanking Thread

Post#1 » by Spanish_Laker » Sat Jan 28, 2017 10:29 pm

Race to the worst record in the NBA:

1. Brooklyn Nets 9-37
2. Los Angeles Lakers 16-34
3. Phoenix Suns 15-31
4. Dallas Mavericks 16-30
5. Miami Heat 17-30

Our odds:

TOP 3: 55.8%
First overall: 19.9%
Losing the pick to the Sixers: 44.2%

At this rate, we will eventually surpass the Nets and we'll get the worst record in the NBA, that will increase our chances at retaining the pick to 65%.

Your thoughts?

I wish we would overtake Brooklyn, but we are probably not going to

When Jeremy Lin gets back around all star break, the nets finally get back their best player.

For us, we had our best players most of the time, and they're are the biggest reason why we're losing.

Unless the lakers make a shortsighted trade to make the playoffs or Jeremy Lin gets hamstring surgery, I'd be bullish on our chances overtaking the nets.

How are you guys this bad! Frustrating as a Sixers fan. You guys sign FAs and draft high and never seem to win.

As a fan its upsetting to see how bad these vets have been for us and we're tied up with them for another 3 years. :banghead:

I'd hate for us to go into tank mode again this year..
I want us to play our best players and also our youngsters to continue to develop and try to win every time we play.

Luke is still trying to figure out this coaching ****, so we're unintentionally tanking.

This team actually has talent--it's just that both sides of the coin are inexperienced as hell right now.

Yup. 100%

He's stuck with this rotation of 9 or 10 players playing 20-29 minutes too long. Combine that with multiple guys out of the 9 sustaining injuries at different times, it's been a major problem.

WHEW. It's about time we get this thread made

Fire Mitch and Jim

Hire Ryan West

Dump Deng and Mozgov by adding Clarkson and Randle to the packages.

Trade Williams for a late 1st. Send Young to the Nets for a 2nd Rounder.

Open up 80 million in cap space for 2018 so we can get PG and Cousins

If Deng leaves the country he may not make it back thanks to Trump. He's a dual citizen of Sudan and Britain. Dual citizens are being turned away.

Our fans overrated our players, especially the young kids imo.

Every and any move by the front office was seen as a masterstroke by them, rather than a complete failure.

Wait....so the FANS made them this bad? I didn't know being an optimistic fan made NBA players suck. That's good to know. Also...you and another guy here aughta go look back at chat-board history. There have been PLENTY of people unhappy with the Mozgov - Deng signings. I'd say most were pretty critical around here. Alot of folks on the radio as well. In fact....I remember waiting to see Mozgov get introduced game-1, and kinda wondering if there would be audible boo's. That's how unpopular that signing was.

And for the record: You don't have to look too hard to know that I myself have been SUPER critical of Jim and Mitch. I don't know if I've been the loudest voice for their firing....but I'm certainly up there. I think they have been a disaster.

You guys still have the Suns to contend with in the race to the bottom. Orlando is quietly creeping up the field, having lost 11 of 14 in January. It will be a tight finish for the minor placings.

I think tanking has been part of the plan the whole time, but they won't tell us that. Also they knew they needed to rebuild, and we had to hold off Orlando and Philly as long as possible we give our picks to them, and it work we just have to do it one more time.

Just one problem will they be willing to leave money on the table because the CBA will make it impossible to for us to steal a star free agent from their teams. Also will it be enough to take down the Warriors in the west I mean we'll be a playoff team, but not a finals team though.

We started 10-10....

Since: 6-24

Simply disgusting, pitiful, pathetic.

We have 16 wins (1 shy of last year's total) and are still only 7 games away from the playoff spot even after a horrible injury plagued 6-24 run. The FO decided and Luke signed up for rebuilding and not tanking. The young players are learning to play as a team and learning to play defense. We have some passionate rookies in BI and Zubac. Nobody on the team is talking tanking.

Even after: 6-24 slump and having multiple key injuries!!

Simply tough when fans talking of tanking at this point. There are 10 teams with less than 20 wins plus another 5 than have just 21 wins. That means there are 15 teams that are stinking and anyone could decide to tank. If we tank worse we are still not guaranteed a top 3 pick (50% chance or so). Why tank and risk picking up or not another 19 year old point guard that might turn into something in the next 3 years? Why not push for the playoffs and pick up a key vet point guard (Holiday, Lowry, GHill, DWilliams or Teague) over the summer and become a middle of playoff team next year?

there is a reason why we went 6-24... its because we suck... when we say tank, we don't mean miss shots on purpose.. we mean don't let mozgov, deng, williams play... and give as many minutes possible for the young guys so they could develope... Let Ivica Zubac start and get 30 min., Let Ingram start, clarkson, randle... Let them build chemistry together... We won't make the playoffs, but if we do, we'll get swept against the warriors... but there is like a .01 chance we make it, because of how bad we are... Lets just wait until next year and try again...

Hmmmm...

Why did we go 10-10 at the start?
Why isnt this thread called "The Official 2017 Play the Youth" Thread?

Lastly, you cannot give playing time to only rookies and expect them to do well and jump start the learning curve to the max. Look at Phoenix and Philly for the last few years. You mix in mostly youth and sprinkle a few vets like we are doing. Then when the youngsters are ready to take over then you let them. Thats how you build chemistry and a winning culture with so much youth in the team.
