Picking sides
Time to draw a line in the sand. Who do you resign to be your starting point guard next season, Collison or Lawson? And why.
Edit: the goal here is to find who is favored on the kings board. If you had to pick between these two, who would it be?

Re: Picking sides
Are we assuming Kings can't get a better free agent point guard like Mills or Chalmers?

Are you referring to Patty Mills and Mario Chalmers? I would say Lawson and Collison are both better than those two. If I had to pick, I would say Collison. Not saying Collison would get more minutes, but Lawson is more productive than Collison coming off the bench.

Re: Picking sides
Resign Lawson, draft the starting PG and bring the former off the bench.

Mills and Chalmers (if he can get back to ~70%) are clearly better options than current versions of Collison and Lawson. Mills can run a offense, shoot the 3 and isn't a terrible defender. Chalmers has been a pretty good perimeter defender. Upgrading starting point guard should be a top priority, but If the only options were Collison or Lawson, then I'd go with Lawson since Collison's defense has fallen off.

I would like to see how everyone else feels about these options. I would have to respectfully disagree with you. I like both Mills and Chalmers but I think Collison and Lawson are def. better.

I'd go with Mills since he's a better point guard and isn't coming back from major injury. Healthy Chalmers would be a really good backup.

I'm not sure how Mills would go as a full time starter with a new team. It would be interesting but I think I would almost prefer Lawson

Re: Picking sides
I would personally rather just see them keep the Collison starting PG/Lawson backup PG rotation in tact. I think if Collison can be re-signed without breaking the bank it would be a major mistake to let him go. If it came down to he and Lawson then it's still Collison all day for two important reasons, a) he can shoot at near elite percentages from 2 and 3 and b) he plays off of Cousins better than just about any other player on the team. He's very good at doing the little things that create space and a target for Demarcus.
I still find it funny how underrated Collison is on both ends and I can only hope opposing GM's are paying as little attention as some Kings fans.
Lawson on the other hand is starting to form some chemistry with Willie and off the bench they are letting him run pick and roll. With Cuz I'm not such a fan. His over dribbling doesn't work with the starting unit and the starting unit tends to move the ball around more and rely less on the two man game.

Re: Picking sides
I'd Lawson back off the bench and going after an upgraded starting PG either through the draft or free agency.

Re: Picking sides
To be the starting PG? Neither of them.
I think we should trade Collison and try to sign Ty to be the backup PG next year. Then either sign a new PG as a Free Agent (LOL) or, more realistically, draft one with our lottery pick this year.

That wasn't the point of this thread but I see it's evolved into "how to fix the point guard position"... It's all good.
Personally I like Lawson over Collison. Ty has a more balance approach of scoring and getting his guys involved.

Yeah I probably should have taken an extra 5 minutes.
But I mean with where this thread went I'm shocked to hear Chalmers and Mills. How is Ty Lawson a worse option?

Mills is more of a shooting guard then a point guard for me.
Celtics fan.

We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

Yes that is true and I think he would be more comfortable if put next to a SG that likes to handle the ball a bit
