He looks more like a quarterback than a point guard. The way he throws the ball to his "receivers" in stride has to be fun to play with. And he's got that Dan Marino, downfield mentality. No conservative dink and dunks. Very aggressive.

You know just a thought, but I'm not averse to Marcus Smart losing his lift as one would think. I honestly think that him playing below the rim at such a young age could in fact help him hone in some other skills that could help his game grow to another level. Shorter players have to develop a different type of craftiness to their game because going up with power is just not an option. It could pay dividends skill wise. Hard to explain. His lack of lift is either an existing ankle injury or he just lost it early. Or he may, in fact, just be packing on weight and can't support it anymore. Whatever.

I would like to see Smart lose 5-10 pounds in the offseason if he is going to play PG full time. That extra bulk is great for his ability to defend SFs/PFs but long-term, the explosion to finish at the rim is really what's going to separate him from being a good player or a great player.

Once again he lost his cool last night and was jawing not only with opposing players but coaches as well .he and Walter McCarty were exchanging words and on at least two occasions Stevens had to yell at him to get him to come to a huddle . At some point a player becomes more trouble than he's worth ( hello Rondo) and I think smart is pretty close to that line. He's a liability on offense as well.

Yes, I just mentioned in another thread how I didn't like how he acted last night, just a few days removed from his other outburst. Dude looks like he's going into rages two different games now.

I think Smarts coming along nicely. The 3 pt% is back above .300 and his 3 point attempt rate is down. He's clearly improved as a facilitator and is the fifth best guy on the roster (behind IT, AB, Crowder, Horford). Only 22. He'll be like AB and continue to improve a little bit for the next 4-5 years and by the time he's 27 he's going to be an excellent player.

Only the coaching staff knows whether his outbursts are truly problematic or par for the course with a guy as competitive as he is. Ainge is probably the best judge having had KG on the team, playing with Bird, and playing with Barkley. If he is being defiant to what the staff is asking him to do, well, he's surely not a good enough player to deal with that crap and he will need to go. His reputation is that of a team leader and if that's true, it's just noise.

Marcus handled himself well last night. The Bucks specifically Delladova and Monroe were goading Smart the entire night. He didn't let it affect him, difficult when Monroe, a big big dude walks right into him. Smart brings this team an edge that it needs. 3-0 since his meltdown including the Celtic's best win of the season over the Rockets, that isn't a coincidence. He brings the defensive intensity and identity that this team needs.

No a game passes when Smart does not make some jaw dropping, game winning play: a steal, a tough rebound, diving for a loose ball, making great passes like the one he made to Olynyk last night, even making a shot once in awhile. He doesn't intimidate. He doesn't back down. He fights through every pick. He makes clutch free throws. When they lose he punches holes in the wall.

No box score can measure what he brings.

Yeah he had some amazing passes and played all-NBA defense as usual

He made some dumb plays at the end but also some great plays in the first half.

3/13 FG, jeez. I like the improved playmaking and FT % though, and maybe he's not the hopeless case he seemed to be in his first two years in the league. Maybe next season he'll be able to improve other areas of his offensive game. Anyway, I hope it'll be someone else's problem by then because I have the feeling we're going to get a pretty decent point guard from the upcoming draft, and if that's the case Smart should be included in a trade for a big man.

Of those 13 shots, he had like 9 of them that were good shots and not long 3s. I think he is starting to take better shots. Now he has to make them.

He's a tough player to figure out. I like him and all he does, I actually think he can score better than he's shown (he doesn't have a terrible looking jumper). He needs more practice.

I think I would trade him for Noel and keep Rozier. We'd lose something, but I just think he needs a place like Philly where he can play 35 minutes without having to be an efficient scorer. He'd be murder down there.

We'll see how his progress goes the rest of the year. Shoot, we might be better as a team if he went the Rondo route and becomes allergic to shooting and just hoists up a few 3's a game just to keep the defense a little honest.

Smart is what he is a 2nd unit PG with excellent defense. I don't see him getting any better. His shot selection is poor and his FG% is just plain awful. I'd include him with a trade for Noel and grab DSJ or Fultz in the draft. He's just like KO, has a good game and then disappears for 3-4 games. His defense is fantastic but it's not smart to sign him to be a big extension when the time comes.

I don't know how many times I've said that some day, some team is going to lose an NBA title because Marcus Smart made like 20 different jaw-dropping plays out of nowhere across 6 games. Artest with only like 10% of the insanity.

People chronically underrate defense, and he plays it like few can.

He's cheeks. Awful FG percentage. They need Avery back right away

Return to Boston Celtics
