If we made that trade and included our unprotected first which is a top five pick in a loaded draft right now I'd stop being a Magic fan.

Our unprotected 1st is our Plan B incase all these gets any worse then it already has. I cant see this going through.

Yeah. I don't like it from our end. Bledsoe can help us, but we aren't making the playoffs regardless. Vucevic has two more years on a team-friendly contract. I see no point in moving him for the opportunity to work out an extension with Len this summer. We have collectively invested a good bit of hope into that pick, and I'd loathe it if our front office gave it up in another short-sighted deal. And as he mentioned, Payton has been one of our only bright spots this year, so I'm not sure how much it benefits us to displace him with Bledsoe.

Yeah, this is about the response I expected; I was surprised that Lowe's attempt at a trade between the teams was so unbalanced! I like Bledsoe a lot, and I think that it means something that Lowe would rate him so highly, but even I don't think he's worth that much. Then again, I was a pretty big Mario fan early on, and all I can hope to get from Bledsoe is a top-8-ish pick, so that deal seemed like highway robbery to me! I also assumed y'all were probably ready to just full on tank, but I thought maybe I was wrong about it.

As an aside, how is Mario doing? I was really hoping he would turn out well, but things don't look great stat-wise?

Hey y'all, Suns fan here, just wondering how Magic fans feel about a trade that Zach Lowe mentioned as one of his favorite realistic trades out there. From his article from today:

That leaves my favorite fake Bledsoe trade: something like Nikola Vucevic, Mario Hezonja, and the Magic's unprotected pick for Bledsoe and Alex Len. Substitute Elfrid Payton for Hezonja if you'd like, but again, the Suns are sitting on a top-three pick in a point guard-heavy draft.

The Magic went deep into talks for Bledsoe before the Clippers traded him to Phoenix. They remain divided on whether Payton, surging a bit over the last six weeks, is the solution. They want to make the playoffs ASAP.

There are obvious complications, including whether the Magic would part with their pick -- even with some protections -- after swapping last year's (plus Victor Oladipo, gulp) for Serge Ibaka. Phoenix may not have the political will to take a step back in Year Seven of a playoff drought.

The Suns and Bledsoe are happy to stand pat. Bledsoe has made Phoenix his offseason home.

I consider Zach Lowe to be the best NBA writer alive, and I think most of the article is, as usual, very well done, but this trade struck me as a good deal for the Suns and not a great deal for the Magic. I know he has his finger on the pulse of most front offices and generally his sources on "how front offices are feeling" are accurate, even when some of his trade specifics are not.

How do y'all feel about this one?

Feels like a lot to give up, but I like both Bledsoe and Len. There might be a framework for a deal here. I think our team would be more willing to take back a big contract to clear instead of part with the pick this year. Maybe a future first round pick other than 2017 may work.

Looks like Wilson Chandler wants out of Denver. Not sure the Magic have pieces that would interest the Nuggets, but considering his contract, he'd be a good get for Orlando.

Unless they'd take Ibaka and filler for chandler no point in giving up assets for him. Just get a star wing in the draft without giving up anything.

I agree. I wouldn't give up a ton for him either, but if he's actually asking to leave Denver, I don't think he's a bad buy-low candidate for the Magic. Drafting a star wing is much easier said than done, and even if the Magic do draft one, he could still get significant playing time behind Chandler while he developed. The reason I like Chandler is because there aren't many SF's that would be willing to come here without issuing a massive contract or giving up a significant number of assets but Chandler might be one of them.

How about this trade. I'm sure picks would be involved. Celtics and raptors are both in a position to try and capitalize. Neither is good enough to beat Cleveland. They've both been rumored to have interest in a magic big. Philly has got a lot of talented bigs too. They're building around embid and simmons. I think Noel is a future role player. Okafor is going to be way to good to be second fiddle to embid. If Boston and Toronto would pull the trigger this trade would give Philly a couple young guys to build around embid and simmons. I think most of us are on board with the full on tank, but our front office is still trying to organize a bucket brigade.

As for Hezonja, I will let you know as soon as I see him on the court.

I don't want Okafor. I don't see any sense in paying all that rookie-scale money to a guy that I was convinced would be a bust when he was still at Duke. It's hard to defend when you don't want to touch anyone. I've said it before, but I will say it again... I would like to nab Richaun Holmes from Philly. The logjam in their frontcourt hasn't afforded him many minutes, but he has been productive when he has played. He is an athletic and active young big that has a bit of skill as well. Unlike Noel, he isn't due a massive pay increase in the summer.

I'd like Bledsoe a lot, but that draft pick was the back breaker. Would Vucevic, Hezonja and our 2019 LAL 1st do it for you?
