GENERAL BOARD POLICY/RULES UPDATE!

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Thu Feb 2, 2017 7:36 am

I'll admit that i have been pretty critical of Howards moderating policies and i think in General, Detroit posters have been victims of unfair treatment of other moderators.........generally. HOWEVER its really nice to see him and the mod team coming around to changing the policies and getting back to facilitating debate and discussion. I know most don't really read the mass dispatch so in case you haven't, there is a change to the GB and other board policies.

I also want to caution our OG and New posters to remember that our board are pretty lax when it comes to moderating under RealGM policies and that is accredited to our awesome mods letting discussions figure themselves out. The **** we post here about topics and each other won't fly on the GB or most any boards. (Notice i say we, as i need to consistently remind myself of this fact)

Just keep in mind that the GB is full of posters from larger boards or team markets, and even if a post is off base or just plain wrong, especially when it comes to small market teams like Detroit, you'll tend to see a lot posters at times feel like they are ganging up on certain teams or posters. Don't get baited, address the post not the poster(s). Also from personal experience, please pick and choose which moderators you engage in debates with and utilize that ignore function.

For those interested, here's the policy update, hope this intrigues some of you

The New General NBA Board Policy

Today is a new day on our General NBA Board.

For a little over the past 4 years, The General NBA Board has had a very strict policy in place.
.
At the time, we needed a policy that got the General NBA Board under control and it was successfully.

However, this policy went on too long and it also got too strict.

Today, this changes with some MAJOR revisions.

The first is a NEW Strike System.

Effective Immediately, here is the NEW General NBA Board Strike System

First Infraction: Strike 1

Second Infraction: Strike 2

Third Infraction: Strike 3 and 7 days of Read-Only Access Status. After the 7th day, the User simply needs to PM Howard Mass and ask to be reinstated. It will then be done.

Fourth Infraction: Read-Only Access Status that cannot be appealed for 60 days.

5th Infraction: Read-Only Access Status that cannot be appealed for at least 6 months. The General NBA Board Moderator Appeals Committee will determine when their first appeal date would be.

- The 12 hour suspension will no longer be a part of strikes unless a User has their third infraction or higher or a Moderator determines it is absolutely necessary.

- Minor Violations like GIFS, memes, IBTL, Evading the language filter and post-padding will also be dealt with differently.
Users will only get warnings for these if they are habitchual offenders on the above and The General NBA Board Moderator Appeals Committee deems their conduct a problem.

-In order for a User to qualify as a habitchual offender, a Moderator would have to submit the request and have it approved by The General NBA Board Moderator Appeals Committee.

-If this happens, the User will receive a PM from a Moderator to tone it down a bit before any warning is sent.

In addition to having a new policy, from now until March 1, any RealGM User with a General NBA Board Strike, two strikes, Read-Only Access or even a full General NBA Board ban may request a...............

General NBA Board Account Review

Any User with one strike, two strikes, read-only access or a full General NBA Board Ban can simply send me a PM and request that their account be reviewed.

They may write whatever they want in the PM or they can choose to write nothing. It's their choice although I would recommend writing something.

The General NBA Board Moderator Appeals Committee which is made up by multiple members of the 12 members of the Moderator Team on the General NBA Board will then review the account.

It's possible that they will vote to...........

- Remove a strike from your record.

- Remove multiple strikes from your record.

- Lift your Read-Only access or General NBA Board Ban.

- Give you a "Clean Slate" on our General NBA Board.

It is a new day on our General NBA Board.

Also.............

Player Comparisons threads will be done differently.

"There has been confusion over the which threads should be posted on the PC board as opposed to the GB, leading to some threads being locked. For clarification, the PC board typically discusses player vs player this season, any season, two players of different eras, ranking of all time players, or comparing two teams from different eras, so these types of topics belong there. Anything comparing multiple players or teams of the current season, etc, are more appropriate for the General board, such as the MVP watch thread, and Rookie Watch thread."

Other things that will change

- Moderators will not be policing threads where they having a friendly argument with a User as it can be a conflict of interest.

- The amount of threads locked will be greatly reduced.

It is possible some other minor revisions could come at a later date.

Olive branch has been extended

Maybe the Gen Board was suffering a lack of clicks?

i think it got to the point where it was just the same posters and discussion. Intially the old policy almost had to be instituted because of the amount of moderating that needed to be done on a daily basis and apparently it was overwhelming. though i thought it was excessive , it did have a somewhat positive impact on the discussions. IMO the last bit that needs to be changed is that moderators of community boards should not be able to comment on the boards they moderate. From the get go, posters aren't on even footing and at least for me lead to a lot of frustration and eventually read only access

I agree with the last bit for sure.

How can us normal plebs get into a heated discussion with [name a mod of another board] & be on equal footing?

They need to get the Current Affairs board under control. They let liberals run that thing into the ground. You can get banned in there for having a different opinion from some of those liberal mods.

My personal GB policy has always been to avoid it entirely, so that's probably a good guess.

i don't really know but when i first started exploring the CA board, there was a "farewell Manocad" thread after he got banned. Granted Manocad typically has a idgaf attitude, i thought it was interesting a mod started almost a troll thread.

The first board I ever moderated was the General NBA board waaaay back in 2004, but over the past few years I've avoided it almost entirely. Over regulation and power hungry self-righteous mods have been as toxic as any community base. I hope this marks a return to a more poster friendly atmosphere but I'm not holding my breath. Some of those same people are still in positions of authority and while they might have to work a little harder to show how big and tough they are I don't expect that to discourage them. Continue to exercise extreme caution.

i was considering requesting to have my read only access removed, but i have enjoyed not always being in almost trouble or dealing with "said mods".

How did you go from a Detroit poster to a GB mod??

I don't know about the CA board, but I had an issue with him knowingly behaving in direct violation of the ToS. It wasn't a huge deal, but he's the sort of guy that doesn't like to be told what he can or can't do and he'll do it again just to prove that he really doesn't give a ****. *shrug* It sucks but that was his choice. It was also one of the major reasons I decided to step down right after; I felt very strongly that not ignoring his violation was the right thing to do given my position - I attempt to be impartial and consistent regardless of circumstance. But it sucked.

Anyway, saw him post something the other day so hopefully he's back. Who knows.

I spent as much time on the GB & Trade Boards as I did the Pistons forum. Maybe more. I didn't take over the Pistons board until after the mass exodus when Howard asked me to help rebuild. A lot has changed since then - at the time we only had 4 GB mods and we ran a relative loose (but clean) house.

this was probably long after your time there, but when i first got here and saw the GB the trolling and discussions were **** in that almost every thread was being ruined by some idiot poster(s) and just turned into pissing matches. The rules put in place i think did help improve the quality on the GB, but i think they held those policies/rules in place for far too long and as you said the moderators there have been toxic. The TT board seemed to have been trending towards that as well. It just makes little sense to allow moderators of boards to participate in discussion especially when they clearly can't control emotions or adhere to their own standard set.

I would venture to guess at that point though, it be hard to find a moderator for those boards??

ya manocad definitely has the idgaf attitude and honestly if it got to the point on our board that you felt you needed to take action, it was most definitely warranted. I am pretty sure he's back, seen him as well and he's actually a decent poster when he's not debating with someone and throwing his rich d* around. i even got invited to go hunting , i just needed to bring a rifle and lube..............not sure what the rifles for =p

Just slightly more relieved to know I wont get an instant suspension for discussing wilt chamberlain in a thread about wilt chamberlain.

BIG General Board Changes

Post#20 » by bwgood77 » Sun Feb 5, 2017 5:42 am

The rules have changed to become much more relaxed. Currently if you have read only access or one strike, all you have to do is PM Howard Mass for an account review, and strikes may be removed. The Mod team on the forum has changed, and you may like some of the changes. For more details, please look at Mass Dispatch. But if you'd like to post on the General board and can't at this point, sending a simple PM for an account review is well worth it.
