What if at the end of the day Phil can't trade Melo, or even if he does, what are the chances Phil sticks around himself - voluntary or involuntary?

If he's not around, who are we looking at to run the show?

Hopefully he's gone sooner rather than later. Phil has been horrible. Regardless of what he does with Melo, Phil should leave.

Phil,
Go to you tube. Watch Markelle Fultz highlights. Close eyes and go into Zen mode. Imagine Porzingis and Fultz on same team for next ten years. Open eyes. Ask self, "why am I trying to win another game this year?"

Has anything been reported that the Knicks job was in any correlation?

Would you rather have Dolan back in charge?

If you can see into the future, can I have the lotto numbers please? You know just as much as I do about who would be in charge if Phil left -- absolutely nada.

I still support Phil 100%. I want him to be in charge of this next phase.

He signed Melo cuz he had to. Now he's gonna trade him and potentially get some assets. So instead of letting Melo walk to the Bulls, the Knicks can turn him into assets instead.

Knicks have had their own draft pick twice since retaining Melo. Phil tanked the first year and got KP. This is year 2 of 3 on Melo's deal, Knicks have their pick again, and they're on the brink of trading him and tanking again. For those of you who wanted a rebuild, what's the issue?

KP, Willy, Kuz, KOQ, Baker. Could resign Holliday who was the best player in the Rose trade. Should trade Lee who has value. Again, what's the issue?

What more could Phil have done? Keep RoLo? Keep THJ? Would that have really made y'all happy? Even though THJ for the Grant pick was almost universally loved here...

Could Phil have forced FAs that stayed with their teams for more money to come here instead? Is he responsible for letting Durant go to GS?

Potential Phil gafs:
Fisher
The Tyson trade which was a minor error at best. Tired of debating that with people. It's a total toss up/hindsight is 20/20 type thing. That team needed to be broken up...

Don't mention JR/Shump as a mistake by Phil. The Knicks were lucky to dump both at the same time. I couldn't care less that LeBron got them a ring. That means nothing to the Knicks.

What's so bad about Phil?

Let him screw this next part up and I'll start chirping. If he decides to trade for more salary to appease Melo, I'll be appalled. If he re-signs Rose, I'll be appalled. Until then, I'm still on his side. #stealthtank is a bit of a stretch, but #stealthrebuild? Since day one, y'all...

I'm not sure if you noticed, but the RoLo trade had a ramification you simply ignored - signing Noah to the worst contract in basketball. If Phil doesn't make that trade, he's not on my **** list because we never sign Noah.

Phil hasn't been great, but I'm not as down on him as some people, but I do agree there are a lot of people I'd rather have in charge (cough cough Sean Marks cough cough)

I dunno, I'm more of a "let things play out" guy myself, but its definitely a risk we'd run, and I wouldn't want to take that risk

False dichotomy. We need Someone more competent than phil or mills to takeover if we're ever going to get to the promise land. I know you like phil, but that's just the way it is.

OP; Pressure of NY made Phil give into Melos NTC and this past summers spending spree, imo. Trade melo for good value, get a top 5 pick from tanking to pair with KP and Im ok with Phil.

OT: I liked the fact he owned an MLS team, thought it was a smart investment. I come from a bias standpoint though as several of my teammates and friends played in the league. Also, his son was a good dude and Mr. Checketts was very generous with tix.

I'd be worried as well, but it's worth the risk IMO. Phil has been horrible for us getting sub par value in trades, making bad trades, and signing Noah to the worst deal in the NBA. You can't have a fear of not getting what you want, or you'll stay getting whatever results you currently get. It's like I said when we last talked about this - Phil might be the best GM we've had in a while, but it doesn't mean he's good nor does it mean we should keep him. It's like saying your ex-girlfriend shot you in the foot, but your current one only stabs you.

I don't have quite the enthusiasm Pidto does about it (who does :D ) but if we're looking at a situation next year where

- Rose is gone
- JHolla is resigned
- Willy and KP starting
- Noah off the bench
- and we got decent to good assets for Melo

Why you mad? It was a blip on the radar. Noah is expensive but Willy, KP, and KOQ (if he's still here) are cheap.

There are other potential outcomes that are bad. There's a lot at stake with this next series of moves, especially Carmelo and the draft. But we've set ourselves up for a foreseeable path that is quite good. I agree with Pidto strongly about #stealthrebuild. There's a 5 year plan under the silliness that could set us up great for the future... and that's exactly what Phil said he would do when he got here.
