Cubs fans seem to think this is the end for us because sheets is going to miss three maybe four starts.

Balfour seems to be pretty good." The 29-year-old Australian ranked 6th among minor league relievers with 14.12 strikeouts per nine innings this season."

If he comes back in 15 days (and I think he will) he will miss 2 starts, July 19 and July 24. He's eligible to come off on the 29th, which would be his spot in the rotation.

sCrUBS fans need something to get a woodie about.

I wonder if Balfour will get the quick hook once Spurling is set to rejoin the team. Melvin seems very high on him and his stats are respectable. It'll be interesting to see how that shakes out.

Only respectable?

43.1 IP/1.87 ERA/.92 WHIP/15 BB/68 K

I'd say that's more than respectable but that's just me.

This kills us. I know Gallardo looked good as a starter, but the only way we aren't screwed is if he continues to throw gems as a starter and either Parra or Balfour step in a throw zeros up there.

God dammit...

While this does hurt I don't think it will be as bad as the Jackson/Hendrickson/Eveland days last year.

HUGE difference between this year and last. This year we have options, last year we had stiffs.

Really, is anyone shocked that a two week injury has blown into an almost 2 month affair?

We actually have a ton of options compared to most teams with Gallardo, CV, and Parra. I'm not convinced we'll see a huge drop off with Gallardo considering how good he has pitched in the majors.

Bah. It will be 4 weeks.
