if they get top-3 this year, then we get their 2nd round picks this year and next year. so if they get top 3, we get 31-33 pick in the 2nd round.

So say they stay in top 3, we get their 2nd rd pick(30 something), could we trade that pick + our 2nd round pick(also 30 something) and a player(Mario, Green expiring, Meeks, DJ, whoever) to get back into round 1? Like a late 1st round pick. That way we would have 2 1st round picks.

Early second round picks are considered to be more desirable than late firsts as there is no guaranteed contract.

i think it would be very possible, especially if we are moving Mario. We wont know until end of the season, so i dont think we can use Green or Meeks, since they are only under contract for this year.

Ok, but would be possible with Mario or another player under contract pass this season? For example, pick 31 from them(just using random #) and say our pick is 33, so pick 31, 33 and Mario for say a pick between 25-30. Of course we would have to find a team to do that, team that wants Mario.

Two picks plus mario, our NUMBER FIVE pick from 2015, for the right to have to pay our draft pick a guaranteed contract? You are crazy.

We had the best player by far in that trade so I wouldn't expect those other teams to still be reaping benefits. Then you think about Boston trading aging stars (Pierce and Garnet) and they keep getting top picks from Brooklyn. So far all the Magic have to show from the Howard trade is the 10th pick from the AG & Elfrid draft. Howard was a top 3 talent in the NBA and its just hard to see our return compared to some of these other teams (see Love for Wiggins...Pierce/Garnett for multiple top picks). I agree there is a lot of luck involved and we still have picks to receive but its been a long time coming.

We are not in the same situation as Philly or Boston. Yeah you can still say maybe he should have done better and yeah probably could have but by how much is far from any certainty. That trade was a good trade though and worked out better for us than any other teams involved. But as for accumulating picks like Philly isn't for everyone and they were in much different position then we were(largely because of that trade). LA isn't accumulating picks though as they owe several of theirs to other teams. But as far as that trade it has been a positive and isn't another reason for being disappointed about our progress. And yeah there was hope we could get the pick sooner but that is all it was and didn't turn out to be so. You can't argue about it hindsight from that perspective as a negative. The Lakers were a mess and it could very well be expected to be later on and I give credit for Henny getting future years added onto it so at least we could get it at some point. As to how good it ends up being is out of our hands. Yeah if it ends up being a latter first then yeah there can be some disappointment there but as far as the trade it still was better for us than anyone else involved. And there still is hope that it could be a good pick as in 2019 it is unprotected so we just and have to wait and see if they give this years first to Philly then we are assured of their 2019 pick and how good it is we shall see.
