if the general manager and coach were not the same person
We would be looking for another coach right about now. This team needs the eyes and mind of a new coach. Mark Jackson?

The general manager and the coach are in fact not the same person. Unless Van Gundy has been Bowers this whole time...
Hell no to Mark Jackson. He's awful. There's a reason Golden State took off after they replaced him with Kerr.

SVG is fine. He's going to be critisized no matter what he does; nature of the beast. I don't agree with every move he makes, but that's gonna be the same for anybody you bring in. Let him do his thing and judge him at the end of his 5 yr plan based on the entirety of his work, not a road bump.

That's incredibly short sighted.
If you believe that the coach you hired 3 years ago is doing a good job and is on the right path why replace him?

Mark Jackson. Wow. Another great suggestion? George Karl? Scott Skiles is our man!

I don't believe svg is doing a good job as a coach. We fans do the eye test. Stats show svg is slow to make adjustments. How he handled josh smith is one example. Allowing Reggie to walk the ball up the court and dominate the ball are 2 glaring examples.

Re: if the general manager and coach were not the same person
This season was clearly a step back. But, we almost universally praised SVG for his first two seasons.
He can look at this season with some perspective when it's over. I'd recommend the same for us. He might pull a rabbit out of his hat and make a big move before the trade deadline.

Re: if the general manager and coach were not the same person
I think the fans eye test is irrelevant
Gores hired SVG for 5 years, gave him ultimate say in building an organisation & we made the playoffs last year and COULD make the playoffs this year despite losing RJ, KCP & Jon to injury for periods of time
For those wanting change on the sideline:
Do you remember John Kue? Frank the Tank? Mo Cheeks? The Binary Man?
A team that sucked monkey spunk for 5-7 years depending on your own tolerance for sucktitude COULD be heading into the new arena after back to back playoff appearances!

Re: if the general manager and coach were not the same person
There's really no other coach I want besides the untouchables like Pop or maybe Carlisle. I might be forgetting one more but whatever.
I hate that fact that SVG gives RJ a huge leash and gives SJ the choker and doesn't play Ellenson. If SVG had a more controllable PG, I'd bet we'd see the season a lot different. This is the same guy that made Jennings our leader and was leading us to an almost unforgettable winning season after cutting Josh Smith. That and he made DJ Augustin look like a starter too.
It's just this time, his magic ran out on RJ or RJ itself capped out.

If SVG stepped down, we'd be getting Bob Beyer.
Weaver = Hinkie

Well, I'd take Stevens, Budenholzer, Quin Snyder, Thibs and possibly Kerr over SVG.

Thibs is the guy who's famous for set elite defensive team while having an awful offense and this year have his team with awful offense AND defense right?
If we were the Wolves with that amount of talent, every poster here would be claiming to fire him.

Am I the only one who looks at Kerr and doesn't see a good coach? The talent he has let's him win, in spite of himself. He just seems like a nervous wreck the whole game

Re: if the general manager and coach were not the same person
Svg and bower has done well upgrading the talent. That being said his offense philosophy is dated. The high p n r with dre and Reggie, the rest of the league has caught up with and doesn't get other players the ball playing to their strengths. That's probably at least partly responsible for mm horrific shooting slump. P n r should be initiated around mm th and jl with constant movement from everyone else. I don't think svg is getting the most from these guys

Re: if the general manager and coach were not the same person
I think the coaching has been a bit sub par this year, the coach needs to get his players ready to play, and many times the Pistons come out poorly. It is not like SVG can blame his GM for giving him bad players either. I think the league has adjusted to his scheme's and he has not reacted very well. What I think is going to happen is they are going to get Clifford out of Charlotte at some point, and SVG will be upstairs, at which point his criticisms and thinking out loud would be more tolerable. I don't like how he handles some of the players either.

Reggie and Drummond's regression to net negative players is the biggest problem with this team right now.

Technically correct. But SVG is the team president and in charge of everything. He has full control over Bower, and Bower has no control over him. So OP's point has merit.
