Still, going unbeaten on the road this far into the season - in the Big 10 - is an excellent accomplishment. Btw, while Huerter is probably the least talented of the Terps big 3 freshmen, he's been as clutch as any MD freshman I've ever seen.

DJ Durkin's first (not counting last season because of the Edsall firing) recruiting class resulted in a top 20 ranking (18).

Swanigan powered Purdue with 28 points and 22 rebounds in the overtime loss to Minnesota on Sunday. He hit a layup to send the game to the extra period.

Standing 6-9 in shoes and 247 pounds with a 7-4 wingspan and 9-1 standing reach, Swanigan's physical profile is intriguing and concerning at once when projecting him to the NBA. He's got a strong lower body and excellent wingspan and reach, which he uses to make an impact as a defensive rebounder and post threat. However, the 19-year old has a very wide frame, is flat-footed and lacks lateral quickness, muscle definition and explosion as a finisher and rim protector.

Maryland basketball’s loss to Purdue was more encouraging than disheartening

So what? Maryland might not be one of the best 25 teams in the nation like the number next to their name on the bottom of the ESPN ticker says. But KenPom still claims they’re a top-40 one, and that’s pretty damn incredible.

The Terps have zero former five-star recruits. They lost four starters from a season ago, including the only recruit they brought in for the 2016 class. Coach Mark Turgeon was forced to give a recruiting pitch even he couldn’t fully lay out given the unknown futures of Robert Carter Jr., Diamond Stone and Trimble and he still landed three top-100 players. Justin Jackson is seeming more and more like a potential one-and-done as conference play progresses.

Turgeon’s recruiting deserves an award of its own, but more impressively, he’s led this team into a formidable one, though he’s playing a group of fresh faces who are either months removed from high school or used to the bench. And they’ve been competitive throughout.

As a recruit on the outside looking in, who wouldn’t want to join an over-performing team set to retain its core should Trimble play his final year of eligibility? The team sports a top-50 offense and defense in the league, according to KenPom and has wins over a pair of top-30 overall teams (Oklahoma State and Kansas State).

As good as Swanigan was, Maryland can't lose that game at home up 12 with about 8 minutes left at home. Didn't score a basket in the final 7:50ish. Still haven't beaten a top 25 team. Of course, that was the first top-25 team they played. Tough one to lose at home.

That's a confidence-shaker. It'll be interesting to see if MD bounces back.

Since Turgeon started coaching here, his teams have no idea how to play with leads. Every single game is close; no matter how good or bad the opposing team is. That's 100% a coaching thing to me. No excuse for letting a 12 point lead just evaporate at HOME. His offenses have dealt with long droughts for the past few years. I really do feel like he needs a really good offensive assistant or something. Guy can recruit talent but the X's and O's just aren't there and it's clearly evident at this point.

Three freshmen starters. I'm optimistic, 80s. This team has an OUTSIDE SHOT at Elite Eight or Final Four.
