I feel you and that's why I'm not completely sold on the idea. I don't trust Markieff either. But our pick has declines in value (because of our record) the chance of being able to use it to acquire Morris' replacement becomes remote.

We need Kieff especially for the playoffs there's not alot of forwards in the league we can acquire that can guard
Millsap, melo, George Horford and bron to an extent...
He makes bad shots but he's one of our best 1on1 defenders considering oubre will foul out
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

So not only do you attach an asset to acquire Barton, you put us in position where will have to attach ANOTHER asset to rid our selves of Nicholson.

Williams is on a 2 year 14 million deal and barton is on a 2 year 6 deal.

One involves swapping Nicholson's salary slot who will make over $6 mil for the next 3 1/2 seasons vs. Burke who will be a free agent.

either way you're still increasing your cap WIlliams 7 nicholson 6. and as stand maxing porter puts us over the tax no matter what we do if we don't lose Mahinmi. So a 2 million difference in how the cap is increased realy doesn't matter.

Sounds like Kev would be okay with Lou Will.

It's tempting. Especially if it's an '18 pick instead of '17.

Wall / Satoransky
Beal / Williams
Porter / Oubre
Morris / Smith
Gortat / Mahinmi

We'd have the 10 guys above for the next two playoff runs. A Lou Will, Oubre, Mahinmi bench doesn't sound too bad.

Kevin Broom is very smart about a lot of things.

He's also wrong every now and again. This being one of those times.

Trade THIS DRAFT PICK just to get rid of Nicholson and shore up a supposedly crappy bench?

NO, dammit. Just try and get the next Yogi Ferrell from the D-League. Geez ...

1. I'm torn on it. If I were to do it, I'd prefer trading the '18 pick as opposed to the '17 one.

2. Lou Will is having a helluva season. 23.3 PER, .598 TS% on 30.4% usage, .163 WS48, .409 from 3pt range, .171 RPM - 5th among SGs in the league.

3. We get him for the rest of this season and '17-18. We relieve ourselves from 2 years of the salary commitment we made to Nicholson.

4. I don't disagree with getting someone out of the D league. But for the playoffs we may need veteran help. I don't think we can rely on Burke/Sato/Thornton/McClellan and survive come playoff time.

Ok i took a better look at lou williams. hes averaging 24 minutes a game. and 18 points a game. Shooting well. Im in. I still like Barton cuz hes younger. but **** Lou can play point hes ok on D and hes perfect to play tomas because lou can handle the main PG duties and share this with tomas and Tomas can cover him on D with bigger two guards and lou can slide over and guard the point guards. I'm sold, Do it. maybe you can then use burke to up grade the front court, like burke and two seconds for the other Morris, or Bogdanovic, or derrick williams, or nurkic or the rights to Petr Cornellie from denver.

That's a great idea, as it would free up our salary structure a lot at the end of the season. We could simply let Ibaka go -- he has been declining for a few years & has declined even more, a lot more, this year. Hezonja has been awful so far, but he's young & worth taking a short-term chance on.

Of course, Orlando has Bismack Biyombo & Nikola Vucevic at Center already, & they have a rookie, Stephen Zimmerman, lined up at that spot too (well... maybe he'll wind up a 4?). I don't see why they'd be tempted by that trade, do you?

Assuming Mahinmi shows he's healthy before deadline, the word is that Vogel loves Mahinmi, maybe they don't wanna lose Ibaka for nothing and would rather have the player under contract. They have definitely given up on hezonja, collecting DNPs, having a rough season.

Who knows, seems lopsided to me, but Orlando reportedly is desperate to make some trades.

Aaah, of course -- I'd forgotten the Vogel connection. Still seems unlikely. Their trade for Ibaka was incomprehensible to me, but it's a sunk cost. He hasn't played well, & I wonder whether anyone thinks he will again next year.

They can make use of the cap space they'd get letting him go. They'll have 9 guys @ $72m for next year, along with relatively high R1 & R2 picks in this strong draft. Seems like they could get a lot better in free agency.

Nat, when you propose something that makes sense to me, I agree with it. When the opposite, then the opposite from me.

It's possible Dat misremembered Barton's contract situation & was too busy to look it up. Wouldn't it be a bit more congenial, more collaborative, just to point it out? Rather than react as you did? I'm not looking for you to answer that -- but please do think about it.

I'm also not calling you out as the only bad actor, & I'm sure I need to work on my own tone as well. Still, this series of posts is kind of poisonous. For no real reason.

You're relatively new here, so you probably aren't aware that Dat & I have butted heads quite a lot over the years. In retrospect, he's been right sometimes, & I've been right sometimes: what else would anyone expect?

If my frustrated responses to you have contributed to a problem, I apologize. Can you please accept that apology, & can we please "all just try to get along"? :)

If we can get rid of Nicholson's contract in the process, I can live with trading a R1 pick for Williams. Especially if we were able to get Nance in the deal.

No question we'd be a much better team this year, & every game we win makes that fact more significant. We are killing it at home, so a home court advantage in R1 would be terrific. Especially if Kev et. al. are right that the EC is a little bit up for grabs right now.

But... I'm not sure LA would do a deal like this. Especially not with Nance in the deal. I'd also do it with Zubac instead of Nance. Not as good for this season, but a good acquisition longer term.

Agreed on Zubac, was just thinking yesterday about him as an option. At the same time, the Lakers are probably going to want to hold onto all of the young talent that they can. I'd definitely call about him though.

The Lakers aren't trading Zubac or Nantz. Those guys are good young players (evidence that show their FO has a good eye for talent, especially in the late round(s) of the draft). Lou has no future on that team. If they can get a 1st for him, they would do that in a nanosecond, considering they could be without two future 1sts already (one to Philly and one potentially to Orlando).

Derrick Williams just released. EG has always liked him, and there was a rumor posted we'd be interested if he was bought out.

They're treating Zubac like a franchise corner-store. That man is going to cost at least 2 future 1sts alone.

3 team trade ?
Wiz get vucivic and a Randolph
Griz get byembo and ibaka
Orlando get parsons, Mahinmi and burke and a 2018 pick from wiz and a 2019 from griz.
A shuffle of bad contracts to help out each team.
Orlando needs wings and they get two first round picks.
we need depth up front and swap the mahinmi deal for a better center on a better deal
the griz dump parsons and get more depth up front.

No chance Lakers trade Nance or Zubac. Nance looks like he can be a damn good role player and they got a steal in Zubac who looks like a young Marc Gasol.

Lou is having a hell of a season and is on a dirt cheap contract. IMO they would deal him for a first since they will probably go into tank mode pretty soon. Doubt they will take Nicholson's contract especially when they're loaded with young power forwards.

Germane to our previous discussions on the boards.. Nance Jr is an example of the type of young player a team can find with a late 1st rounder (#27 pick).

And Zubac is an example of a good find in the 2nd round (#32 pick)

It seems that cases like those players would make an argument for holding onto our picks instead of trading a 1st for a rental. I would love to add a Lou Williams or Barton, but at what cost?

Trey Burke and/or Nicholson seems like a fair swap. That's the highest I'm willing to go. Maybe give them one of our young gems (Ochefu, McClellan, House).

Low/no risk, admittedly. But... Williams has had so many shots and been so bad. Seems kind of pointless. There have to be better guys instead of him.
