Id be more concerned about the seriousness of his injury if it wasnt for the fact that he was just named to be a participant in the skills challenge on All Star weekend. Not a chance in hell his name would have even been mentioned for that if there was any seriousness to his injury.

Why are you blaming his shoes? You act like adidas has horrible shoes. Many players wear adidas. Do you have personal knowledge how their shoes are made compared to Nike?

Brook Lopez, Derrick rose had career threatening injuries with them... If you look at Embiid's shoes the tongue is to the side... Looks like an odd design which probably doesn't give a lot of ankle support...

Derrick rose tore his knee on a jump. Didn't appear like the shoe had major impact on the injury. And Joel broke his navicular before signing with adidas.

I think Yao Ming had multiple foot injuries with another shoe company, maybe Reebok. Jordan broke his foot in Nikes, and he is a lot smaller than Embiid or Ming.

I'm not sure there is evidence that Adidas presents a shoe with greater risk of injury. In addition, the sixers stated that while adidas would design the outer shoe, that their orthopedic surgeons would design the orthodic and interior support of the shoe.

Thanks for the insight. I didn't realize that he had orthotics. That being said he tweaks his ankles way too much... That shoe tongue to the side just seems weird...

I hope we can see him for around 20 more games this season. We deserve it!

And I think many of his landings are where he is bouncing around wildly and really has no control over how he lands. He just flies at people for block and launches for the rim for awkward dunks. He has a really high motor which makes him great, but the chaotic play seems like it leads to him always landing weird and getting injured.

I agree with many that we should have an expert teach Joel how to land, but many times it wouldn't be helpful anyway... Teaching Michael Vick to slide would've allowed him to avoid injury, and he was most often in a position to utilize a slide when running. Conversely, Joel flies around like a manic. His contorted positions prob wouldn't allow him to utilize appropriate landings most of the time.

Hoping he'll play Wednesday at home against the Spurs.

Such a pity that Duncan retired. He and Embiid are like ships passing in the night.

Would have liked to get Embiid to have the chance to play him. On that note, I wonder if Duncan will ever train with Joel at all.

Joel said he texts and talks to Duncan regularly. It'll probably happen at some point.

Yeah, and the Brett Brown relationship makes it even more likely. I just don't know what Duncan wants to do. Hakeem embraced the role of training young players, but I have never heard Duncan weigh in on the subject. I hope he wants to do it.

sorry for the OT, but maybe Brown can use his connections and get Chip Engelland to oversee TLC and Roco's jumpshot over the summer? Maybe even Simmons.

Always believed the superstar training the young player was overrated. I don't know if TD can communicate with JoJo or not. Is TD a good teacher? M Jordan clearly was not. Kareem was terrible at it as well. I've never heard anyone credit Hakeem for changing there game. I think it is relevant only in navigating the off court stuff that superstardom brings.

I think it's more up to the person receiving the instruction.

Even the best instructor can only bring the horse to water, after all. It's up to them to see if they can drink it. I think the advantage of having a superstar instructor is that there's instant credibility. You don't need to question if what he's teaching you can work at the top level. You know it can work. It's a matter of seeing if YOU can also make it work.

The thing about Embiid is that he's such a sponge anyway, that if you get someone who teaches him little tricks and moves that have a pedigree of working out, you can trust a guy like him to add it to his repertoire, which can only be a benefit when it gets further into his career. I don't think anyone is expecting him to magically find the secret to making a quantum leap as a basketball player.

I agree completely that being a great player doesn't automatically make you a great teacher, but in Hakeem's case he is both. I suspect that Duncan might be good at it as well just based on temperament, and how he excelled through technique and skill over basic physical talent.

I've heard players credit Olajuwon for helping advance their games. The latest being Lebron James who I believed worked with him for a summer.

Would the Sixers front office entertain the possibility of bringing either one of them in to mentor Embiid and help him further develop his game? As already mentioned, in Duncan's case, it definitely helps that he shares a connection with Embiid in BB. Furthermore, given how long Patrick Ewing has lasted as an assistant coach, it's not like there isn't a precedent of a former superstar big man being an effective mentor for current players.

Shame on Brett if he can't use his connections to get TD to work with an Embiid at some point during an offseason in Embiids career. Embiid is so wild in so many facets, to have a level headed, grounded, humble stud big man to teach him the tricks of the trade and have some of his maturity wear off on JE, would be humongous.

I don't get the sense Tim Duncan is looking to mentor young players. He's content working on his business and staying away from the game now. It would be good to hook up with Dream though.
