Giving up that midrange almost every time. I know it's by design but it hurts my soul when I see us play 10 feet off those picks.

20 turnovers...
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

Yeah, Brook had a nice power layup/almost dunk in the opening minutes, but the Raptors had most of the highlights.
I remember Ross and Powell each having two monster dunks. Val had at least one monster dunk as well.

What was funny was listening to kids talking very loud saying "The Nets suck" and I was stuck between admitting "Yeah, you're right" and "Kid, do you even know how to dribble a basketball?"

It was one among several things I did in Brooklyn and it was a gift. Haven't been to Barclays in a while so I'm glad that I at least got to visit again.

Those kids will be watching Zion Williamson highlight reels in 3 Years.

I am generally ok with it. It's easy to idealize aggressive hedging on picks, but that can and does backfire. The Clippers got demolished by Portland in the playoffs partly because of their PnR blitzing failing. And they had very good PnR defenders like DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul (before getting hurt).
Basically, I would much rather give up a mid-range jumper than allow a basket in the paint or a corner three (if guards have to rotate in to fill the paint).

the problem is... its a wide open either 10-12 footer or running 6-8 footer. and when you know you are gonan get it and you know its not contested that shot becomes a gimmie.

I'm not even talking about aggressive hedging. We don't even really switch on those PnRs. Our defending guards get caught in the pick and their ballhandler gets a ridiculously open midrange practice shot.
No hand in the face. Nothing.
We're not talking about the 50% 2pt field goal percentage = 33.3% 3pt field goal percentage. They are so open where I can't imagine that shot not being made at 60+% clip easily. I'd probably put it between 70-75%.
Additionally, the way it's defended never stops the drive from the ballhandler. When Brook (or any of our bigs for that matter) plays so far back, he's actually looking to stay with the bigger roll man who initially set the screen.
The problem is that the guard who has come off the screen can now either take a wide open midrange or can gather steam and charge at the rim where he can now 2pts, possibly an And-1 and draw another foul. A switch would at least impede the latter from happening so often whereas our current plan does nothing.
If the ballhandler does attack the rim, it's very hard for a wing defender to rotate from a standing position that far away from the basket when said ballhandler is making a beeline to the basket going north and south. Even if they managed to get in the area, it would almost be impossible for them to be in position to draw a charge considering where they're coming from on the court.
We also need to think about how tiring it is for our guards to constantly fight through the screens and receive no rest that switching the assignment provides. They have to fight through every single time and teams are constantly spanning picks on us. That is tiring. It would actually be interesting to see if part of the reason the Nets often hang around for 2 quarters and then get destroyed in the latter parts of the 2nd half is in part because the guards just get tired.
In a league where wings are doing the most running around and the center doesn't have to fight for post position on offense or defense, it'd be nice to have our wings conserve their energy for guarding their own guys as much as possible since they're going to be doing much of the heavy lifting. If the center needs to come out to switch for a few seconds, they should do it but I think the Nets know they can't do it because we'll definitely get burned almost every time with our centers on the wing even for a few seconds. Sadly, I think it behooves the Nets to have a center who can help out in this regard because open top of the key isn't just an open shot; it's a potential wide open shot, drive to the basket for an And-1, or a 3pt shot if we're relying on wings to rotate from other parts of the court to cover for the center.
And yet despite having our bigs stay back on those picks, we're still dead last in opponents 2nd chance points (16.1) by an absurd 2pt margin away from the 29th place team.
Yeah, we could use some taller, athletic big guys who can grab boards but if we're not even going to defend the PnR, we should at least be making sure that teams get only one crack after they take shots.

I'd rather be able to switch on the screen, and not give up uncontested looks to NBA pros.

You won't win many games when the big man is defending like this
