This gets the Magic a star to build around and it lets Chicago recharge. They don't look like they have enough, so this may a way they can move forward.
So let me get this right this trade is "closer" to Butlers value if Orlando offers the following ..
Elfrid Payton
Evan Fournier
Aaron Gordon
Mario Hezonja
'17 1st rd pick
So (3) of Orlando current starters a likely top 5 pick in a stacked draft and the 5th pick from last years draft and it's only closer to Butlers value?!
If it indeed takes this much to acquire Butler I hope Orlando stays FAR FAR away even though I know this is a simple case of over valuing Butler/under valuing Orlandos assets.
Yes, I think that would be fair for their value now. You can take Hezonja out if it makes you feel better, because I don't think he moves the needle either way. Your 2017 1st round pick will probably be a late lottery pick or 15-20, because of how tight the race is, so that asset isn't worth as much.
The others:
Payton is interesting because Chicago could still use an option at PG.
Fournier is probably Butler's replacement and he's certainly not as good.
Gordon should have an excellent future and is the best asset you are offering.
I'm not trying to diminish your team. Miami, for what it's worth, has the same problem. We have very few assets that would bring back Butler. That's how it goes.
I don't think this is a good idea for Orlando, by the way. I would pass too. I think you need to build behind Aaron Gordon, but the Magic definitely needs help.
