We'll see his lateral quickness defending 3s. I remember Brandon Bass being a better defender in LeBron than Pierce due to his size.

If he could ever get close to Millsap. Oh my lord. I was thinking Diaw.

This is exactly who I see in Yabs. Ceiling sounds about right

I see Yabs as the French Derrick Williams, who was just axed by Miami

Seriously? Maybe talent wise. But it's not only about talent.

I see Yabs and I see a guy that can shoot, rebound, pass, handle the rock well for a guy his size.

I also see Yabs and see a guy that competes and is passionate and has fun on the floor. I didn't ever see that in Williams.

Williams has too much talent to get waived. There is other stuff going on what we may not know.

He is a stretch 3/4. 4 his more natural position but he can no doubt play some time at 3 against a tall lineup. He is very efficient from the 3 and runs faster than you expect for a guy his size. Remember with all the hype about Zizic at being a 20yo playing well, Yabs has just turned 21. Future is bright.

Somewhere I read in one of those 'draft prediction' type modeling blogs an interesting bit about weight. It was counter-intuitive, but the finding was that for two players with similar statistical production, the one that weighed more tended to be the better prospect long-term. It's counter-intuitive because we tend to think of heavier as slow/fat, but if that is not the case (ie, if the bigger/stronger player is just as fast/skilled/able whatever as a lighter player), being strong and heavy is a good thing.

I believe that. To me, it comes down to energy. Sully would be a fantastic player if the dude didn't get winded as easily or remain stationary/inactive as much as he does. He generally gives great effort in going after the ball for rebounds. But too much conservation of energy in how much he moves elsewhere. That's the thing I try to focus on when looking at Yabusele, which is why I was trying to watch more actual games than rely on highlights. Same as I did for Nurkic. I though Nurkic, while he too had endurance issues, generally was quite active for long stretches of games. Which is one reason I liked Nurkic as a prospect.

I was extremely skeptical with his pick. I didn't realize he was 280 lbs. I too thought why are we taking a fat/slow SF? But he's actually a big bootied short PF. But being short won't matter as far as rebounding goes and offensively he's a stretch 4. So I'm pretty excited. He will def have an issue contesting the taller PF but he does have hops and his girth should be enough to keep guys from getting too deep in the post. I just wish there was a way to get him over here now. He'd really help on the 2nd unit:

Zizic, Yabusele, and Nader all look better than expected at this point. Zizic is particularly promising. Brown looks like the right choice at #3. Last year the Celtics had a great draft and practically no one knows it yet.

With many picks coming in the next few years, and the Ainges' having dipped their toes into international waters, we'll probably see more overseas selections in the near future.

totally agree, have thought this for a long time when it comes to big men that weight and strength is just as important as height. i think people underestimate how physical the nba game is on the inside, these guys aren't just tall they are also stacked. if you look at the great big men in the history of the league they were all super strong. the ralph sampson body type is not a recipe for longevity and effectiveness.

the downside is occasionally you get a sully who can't get his weight under control. but most guys are motivated by millions of dollars if not sheer competitiveness to keep it under control during their playing days.

yabs in particular doesn't seem like he has conditioning or verticality issues, despite carrying quite a load.

Stockier/stronger guys are also much more durable.

FWIW--Yabusele was measured with "near 7-2 wingspan" before the 2016 draft in his workouts for NBA teams. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Guerschon-Yabusele-66311/

That is an outstanding wingspan for a barefoot 6-7 guy. Means he should be able to defend at the 4 position.

I love the way the Chinese fans get into it, blowing bugles and waiving their foam batons. They are more enthusiastic than the fans in Europe.

1. There is no such thing as THE fans in Europe. Fans is Sweden are not like fans in Serbia, for example.
2. Uh, nope. Think again. CBA fans would leave the arena if they'd visit a Red Star game, for example. CBA fans are more like All Star game fans.

Curmudgeon...your statement that fans in China are more enthusiastic than fans in Europe is the most silly thing i read on this forum. Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia...please go to youtube
