I love Lonzo Ball too, but he isn't worth Smith and Isaac, or any other 2 of the top 6. I don't think he is Jason Kidd with a jump shot though. Jason Kidd was one of the best college players that I ever saw, and I don't think that Ball is THAT good.
Next year's draft is worse than this one, and the Lakers would have to be better than they are this year.
We don't know about next year yet. It very well could be that the top 2 prospects in 2018 (DeAndre Ayton and Luka Doncic) are both rated higher than any player in the 2017 draft.
The draft this year looks very good, but I'm not sure there are any prospects on the Davis/Embiid/Simmons/Towns Tier 1. At this early stage it looks like Ayton and Doncic could both be on that tier.
Plus, the Lakers are no guarantee to get better. I could easily see them finishing bottom 3 next year. They don't have any superstar potential currently, and adding a 19 year old from this draft won't make them better quickly.
Because of all that I'd probably rather have #1 this year and the 2018 LAL unprotected as opposed to #4 and #5 this year.
