Another rebuild in the making? [emoji52]

Post#1 » by Pops Maellard » Wed Feb 8, 2017 2:25 am

What the hell is up with the magic this season, it's like we've completely imploded from within. We made some silly trades in last years off season like the Ibaka trade, look at what's my man Oladipo is doing this season killing it and now it seems we're trying to get picks for Ibaka even tho in the off season he becomes a free-agent, in my opinion the trade should of never happened, same as signing Biz but I don't even want to go on about that awful contract..

Like I get it they wanted a defensive team and adding them two on paper looks like a top defensive pair but as the games go on you can tell it's a horrible structure, if Orlando was serious about getting defensive they should of gone for Whiteside, heck even trade for him right now but that's not going to happen.

Our current Gm in my opinion needs to be let go of and find someone new, hell the current board has to be changed too, we need new faces and new ideas to spice things up because it looking like a boring old sandwich that's been left in the shop for a few days. We were once a great force in the NBA and as it sits right now, these last 5 years have been a joke and once the new rebuild comes like I'm predicting it will be another 4-5 years of losing just to get a decent team.

We finally have a decent coach like my lord we have had horrible coaches since SVG left, but we finally managed to get a top coach, one piece down, but all the moves over last seasons off season have been nothing short off appalling least to say. Our team is in shambles where I'm looking from, and it's sad to see because we are a community team, and as a community we're getting let down by the management of this team. We went though thick and thin while we had the rebuild after Dwight left and we stuck it out thought the good times and the bad times, but even after all that pain and hardship of that rebuild, what exactly do we have to show from it? Nothing, I mean AG is really our only shining light and even then he can only do so much.. I guess overall I'm just frustrated with the board and team in general as a fan, something really needs to change cos our future right now isn't getting any brighter.

I might be in the minority. I still think Magic should keep the young nuclei.

And make the deal we need to make. Whether it is incremental or a big change.

This is what we've got for 4 years. Can't just throw it to the garbage can.

If it is the case that we need another rebuild, Magic might tank for ten years without playoff berth.

Keep the young nuclei as much as Magic can.

Conclusion: not another rebuild.

The entire concept behind this rebuild needs to be called into question. Why arrange marginal defensive and offensive talent around players still on their rookie contracts? Why fill a bench with journeymen that obviously lack starter level talent? The answer is that Hennigan whiffed on player evaluations, across the board.

Payton and Gordon are interesting players but obviously not ready to anchor a playoff caliber team. Ibaka or Biz are flashy defenders by not good enough to anchor a top ten defense. Vucevic and Fournier are intriguing offensive players but nowhere good enough to be top options. Meeks, Augustin, Green, and Watson are viable 9th men in the rotation but your 7-8 spots need better talent.

Just across the board, we are mediocre or terrible. Ugh. At least we are not locked into the bench or Ibaka and have other pieces that we can move. At least we have a decent pick to add to our rookie contract fold.

We either need Gordon and Payton to play MUCH better next season, or we need to find better supporting talent, or we need to blow it all up and start tanking for a new core ASAP.

anchor? shoot, they are barely able to play as normal NBA starters. we need more than supporting talent, that is all we have. no one should be untouchable on this roster to get some alpha dogs in here. Just not 36 yr old alpha dogs. No star at the end of their career

Blow it up! Ibaka's the biggest chip, but, IMO, if you're going to get zipped for him, consider keeping him and trading the rest. I'm a tired optimist...everybody in the league is capable of an occasional great game (they're in the NBA), but the lack of consistency here is horrific. The only one whose shown any consistent production over the years is Vuc but I'm not able to project what Vogel can do for his D. Why we cling to AG and EP and Evan and even Mario as a core with "upside" is starting to become less clear. None have shown any kind of Alpha/Take Over a Game instinct. Occasionally EP, but not often enough. Just bad chemistry I guess...tough job being GM...I thought he had a big offseason but they look absolutely JV out there this year.

Actually, that is what bothers me most. All these high potential kids we're drafting made marginal improvements, while low upside guys like Vučević and Fournier made strides in first couple of years with us.

I'm no longer enamored with "upside" and "potential", from now on I want us to draft kids with real basketball skills and IQ first, athleticism second.

That said, I have no idea why Mario turned out to be a Pooper.

+1

Look: Ibaka can be replaced with the three expiring deals. Biyambo and Augustin are competent bench players are not-horrible contracts.

There is a launching pad start for this roster.

Payton, Fournier, and Vučević are complementary. Either Gordon is a PF of the future, or the whole starting forward core needs to be rebuilt.
