Wasn't his knee surgery in Dallas a type of microfracture?

Even HOF caliber players who undergo microfracture surgery fall off a cliff in performance, with Kidd being the only exception I remember. Amare Stoudemire, Chris Webber, etc..

IMO, there are 2 major issues with Chandler Parsons.

1) Effort - This has been touched on already. He seems to want to coast by, live the lifestyle, and not do all the hustle things that made him a great bargain player in Houston.

2) His Shot is Flat as F. - His shot has always been super-flat. Doesn't rainbow much at all. That's all fine and good when you are young, uninjured, and when you elevate you are releasing at a high enough point for the shot to have a natural, albeit flat, arc to the basket. Now, take a way some of that athleticism (via injury, and eventually age), and all of a sudden the top of that same jumpshot is 2-3-4 inches lower. That super flat shot now has an even lower probability of going in due to trajectory.

Now, that's not saying that every shot he shoots is flat. But his 3's especially just do not have the arc needed to maintain high shot percentage at a lower launch point.

When this guy was with the Mavs he was solid whenever he played, but he didn't play very much. Chandler Parsons is a good piece but he can't stay healthy. Hes overpaid and Cuban realized that he is not worth a max contract. I feel like he added too much weight which took away from his slashing style of play he had in Houston. He was very effective as a 6'10 Small Forward who can move very well.

Why don't we let the dude get healthy before we judge his effort? Now, he may never be healthy again, but being hurt is not a character flaw.

The grizzlies don't need him right now I believe they're the second best team in the west even without him so I think it's good situation while he recovers.

Pretty sure he had a hybrid micro fracture surgery. I highly doubt he'll ever be the same again.

He had about a 2 or 3 week stretch last year that he looked really good during.. Aside from that, his stay in Dallas was extremely forgettable... He still managed to get a max deal off of it even after another knee injury that happened after that though. Motiejunas should hire this guys agent asap.

His questionable health is what "was up". He is still a good player when healthy, which he rarely is.

This year his numbers and percentages are just awful. If he was playing at his expected level the Grizzlies might be a top 4 seed. Is he still just getting back into form after all his injuries or is his contract going to just be terrible for the next 3.5 years?

Well, he wasn't that great to begin with.

He has been injured over the last couple years.

He doesn't strike me as someone who is passionate about the game.

And yes, it looks like the contact will be not a great one.

Memphis failing to bring a decent SF in free agency (for years) has destroyed any option of serious contending for an otherwise beautiful team, and Chandler Parsons seems to be just another chapter of this sad story. You can dream he will be ok by the playoffs but it certainly doesn´t look good.

I was somewhat nervous when Portland made him an offer during the off-season. Between his injuries and the questions about how committed he is to the game, I was kind of happy when he signed with Memphis instead.

He can always pivot into becoming an IG model.

I feel like some people in this thread are underrating his play in Dallas. He was always pretty good for us as long as he was healthy. It was health concerns that led Cuban to not give hime a max contract, not a lack of passion or underwhelming play.

It's easy to hate this guy (especially as a Mavs fan) but I'm not sure i'd be much different. Dude won the genetic lottery and is using it to full advantage off the court. Props to that.

Yuri Vaultin wrote:It's weird - it is almost as if he needs working knees to play. Just crazy.

It's funny because the most and-1'd post here is simply saying he's "overrated". Reality is that his knees are gone but people are just going to claim that he was never good to begin with when that couldn't be further from the truth.

Still not worth all that much money in his prime but he was legitimately a pretty damn good player. Easily a top 8ish small forward at the time.

1) He was overrated to begin with. Nice player but never was worth a max deal.

2) His knees are shot. Above average player with multiple knee surgeries who relied on athleticism = not very good player

Morey said it right. "The team's that find the Chandler Parsons, not the one's that pay him max".
"Morey decided in 2007 that Steve Francis was to be the "franchise player" of the Rockets only to play what... 5 games? Morey didn't think Marc Gasol was worth a look that year,"
