Re: 2017 Draft
Thanks for reaching out, for a while I thought I was posting to myself...like that's NEVER happened before
. I agree POR is the biggest threat, although NOP has come on lately, I'd put it at 60/40 we make the playoffs, depending on injuries and the trade deadline. I wouldn't be disappointed if we missed the playoffs but it would disrupt my draft hope, this being an exceptional draft but who knows.

I read everything posted on Nuggets Board - comment on too many.
Draft is not my expertise though and I tend to avoid trades somewhat just because opinions run too hot.
I thought about New Orleans, but they've only got one player I believe in and he can't carry them into the playoffs, I don't think. Rockets & Trailblazers are the only teams that have surprised me so far this season. I had Denver slotted for #9 in the West and I still sorta' think that.
But I surely do agree with this draft being deep. I've taken some time to look and considered several sites. I've picked out 18 players that all agreed were top-20. There are four PGs in the top 6 or 7 and that's the #1 position I think the Nuggets should avoid, unless they make a trade first. Of the other 14, 8 look to be might fine PF/SF types plus 4 more PF/SF that I'd rank right behind those 8. That's 12 out of the top 18 I've looked at and I really do like those odds because the odds are very good that multiple players will be selected before all 18 of these.

It could be a deep draft and that could benefit a team not in the top five. Looks like a good time to pick a SF after the top five.
Canned in Denver.

You are so right - there are some VERY nice SFs in there, including Skywalker's favorite: OG Anunoby. He'd make a nice SF to play against LeBron & Kawhi types and he could play some PF too. He's got some good game! Hernangomez & Cornelie look like good options at PF so we could pick two SFs in the 1st round (or a backup center) but it might not hurt to pick another PF with a SF and there are some nice PFs in the mix this year. PGs at the top, but some good players reaching down to at least #20.

Definitely draft Alpha Kaba, out of France.

I don't know if he's any good, but that's a great freakin' name right there.

Never heard of him, so he must be no-good --- wait a minute, prospects are not my strength, never mind
So I looked him up. I'm intrigued. If we could get him in the second round, I'd be happy. He might need to be stashed for a year or two but he shows potential. It seems he needs to learn some discipline and skills as opposed to relying on his athleticism. But his size is hard to teach.
6'10" w/7'5" wingspan 235 lbs - perfect for a PF/small ball center
mobile - hard worker - good leaping - shot blocker - can guard 5 positions - good lateral speed - decent shot from mid-range - nice handle for big man - good first step - good passer
sometimes stiff/awkward - seems to prefer playing outside instead of near the basket - not a good second jump - poor positioning down low - no good post moves/back to the basket is weak

Ivan Rabb would be a nice fit next to Jokic, but I doubt he will be available for the Nuggets when they are ready to make a pick .

Unless Rabb breaks out or has a fantastic draft workout, I can easily see him within our reach. I prefer Giles' potential (could be more hopeful than realization) but Rabb would be a nice selection to pair with Jokic. He and Juancho would be formidable at the PF position.

Harry Giles???, I feel like Denver maybe needs to swing for a player and hope they breakout. Any other player like that available at 15 or so???

Re: 2017 Draft
Yeah, it's a little early to figure out who is going to be available when. How they play this year; how they do in the playoffs; etc. Beasley dropped last year because of an injury. The list goes on. I've compiled a list of 20+ forwards that seem interesting for middle-to-late in the first round. That's about as close as I'll come, although I did identify three of my favorites earlier.

Yes, Giles ! Prior to his injuries, he has shown the talent to be the #1 overall consensus pick in the draft, ACL injuries usually take 18-30 months to recover so if we can get him at 15 and he recovers to his pre-injury self, that'd be HUGE. Place him and OG Anunoby on opposite sides of Jokic and we're contenders...PERIOD.

You and your "OG Anunoby"!
As you say, Giles might drop and for whatever reason, Anunoby seems to be dropping slightly. It might be possible to get both. Regardless, I think we can get two pretty good forwards out of this draft.Since I'm hoping they bring Cornelie over next year, I'm looking for two SFs with one or both able to play some PF --- similar to Chandler, but maybe a little bit bigger than Chandler, or at least a massive wingspan.

Re: 2017 Draft
They way this draft is panning out, and the way I'm seeing mocks going, I think we're in a great position to take a PF that fits really well with Jokic. One of Rabb, Giles or Bam Adebayo should be there, and I think they all bring skillsets that really complement Jokic. Athleticism, defense, finishing around the rim.
At that point we'd be set with guards and bigs with Mudiay, Murray, Harris, Beasley, Jokic, Cornelie, Juancho and one of those rookies. Then we'd just have to find a SF or 2 to round out the team.

If the Nuggets do get into the lottery, probably 11-14th pick. Looking at the schedule, I'd guess we miss out on the playoffs and get the 12th pick, just a guess. Also depends on who gets what at the trade deadline, know I'm going out on a limb there.

Re: 2017 Draft
Another good currently on the rise, especially if Nurkic does get traded, Justin Patton. Runs floor well, good defensive skillset. Alsways seems to be in the right position around the rim. Don't know if he could/couldn't play alog side Jokic but the potential is there.

Re: 2017 Draft
Giles has shown zero of the explosion he showed his high school. Unless he works out excellently for teams, he should be firmly in the 2nd round. Just my opinion.

Can't disagree but it usually take 18-24 months to fully recuperate from an ACL injury. Having his 2nd surgery about 12 months ago I wouldn't expect him to show that explosiveness yet, so there is where the gamble would be. Even if he gets back to 60% of where he was, he and Hernangomez should be a formidable PF combo for years to come. If he gets back to 90%+ he and Jokic will dominatee and put us into Finals contention for years to come.

ACL injuries scare me. I've torn both ACLs twice, along with some other ligaments with each tear (various combinations). Coming back from an ACL is tough, some can do it, some can not. I am blessed in having fairly healthy knees with pain only during extremely cold weather and I can walk just fine. Going down stairs and running are difficult though. With that said, I'm no longer young and I never had the quality of assistance Giles will have.
To play at an elite level after an ACL injury will be mostly about the individual's effort. So what kind of man is Giles? That's my question. Does he rely on his natural ability or does he work hard on it?

Re: 2017 Draft
Giles had TWO ACL tears in high school. I mean, I believe he can carve out a career as a role player perhaps, but if you're taking him because you hope he starts, well... I just think that's a bad pick. It's unfortunate, but that's how I see it today. Maybe he surprises, and his workouts wow teams, I am just skeptical.

I can see you sentiments, absolutely makes sense. I can see picking Rabb instead, he's the safer pick. But gambling on Giles is swinging for the fences IMO
