We need a voice and an explanation

Post#1 » by axl_c_cool » Fri Feb 10, 2017 11:33 am

Hey everyone,

This team and franchise are getting more concerning by the minute, what is even more concerning is when fans (myself included) are willing to and even wanting this team to lose after 5 years of a rebuild. I really think the fans deserve an explanation, not a corporate standard statement, but an explanation of what's gone wrong, and what the long term goal is to fix this. If we're tanking they need to say we're rebuilding, if we're competing they need to tell us what kind of team we're trying to build. The long story short this isn't good enough. I pay for NBA League Pass JUST to watch the Magic (I'm from the UK), I know many others do the same. This message board became the most toxic I've known it since I joined in 2004, because the franchise is a mess. This isn't a 'fire (insert name)' thread (I actually think some consistency and a plan is what we need) I think we need a way to public show our discontent and potentially get the information we deserve. Does anybody have any ideas?

i would cancel league pass asap. That's the best way to show your discontent: your wallet. That's all these corporations understand. When their revenues fall and sponsorships dry up then they'll get the picture.

We are right on track with ownership's expectations. 2030 is when we are supposed to compete again. No explanation needed.

I cancelled my League Pass and put "Because Orlando Magic are s**t" when they asked for a reason.

In exactly the same position, open my wardrobe and see my Hardaway, O'Neil, McGrady, Hill, Howard, Reddick, Gordon jerseys and it's hard to take! Then I put my woolly hat and check the mirror and it's a Magic hat. Sit down and look at my Snapback collection, Magic hat, lean back on a cushion, Magic cushion lmao! Like you said, I tried to follow another team, I root for the Warriors, no love there like the Magic though.... :noway:

We genuinely need an online petition though, or something that will get media attention and these guys will see. I'm so scared on February 23rd I'm going to see "The Orlando Magic trade Elfrid Payton, Aaron Gordon, 2017 1st round pick for Paul Millsap" or something along those lines...

Did anyone notice the magic had another auction for a game worn Jersey last night. The game is the day of the trade deadline. The auction is for AG and JG. Is that management telling the league and us that they are both not getting traded?

I'll do you guys one better. Just this morning we notified the Magic we aren't renewing our full season passes (4 of them) - made it clear to our rep that the lack of effort, direction and communication were unacceptable and despite many years as season ticket holders we are D-O-N-E.

It is amusing because we are on the payment plan where your passes automatically renew if you don't cancel. So the notification of automatic renewal came just yesterday with a BS boilerplate letter from Martins saying patience, new players, etc. Then I look at the renewal billing statement and the prices WENT UP quite a bit - after the steaming pile of garbage they served us season ticket holders this year they raised prices. Then last night they go out and deliver us the lack of effort and incompetence of the Philly game. GREAT timing for the renewal notices fellas! I wouldn't be surprised if there is a rash of cancellations this week and next (the deadline is March 1 to avoid auto renewal).

They likely don't give AF as they can fill the arena with corporate groups, tourists and fans of other teams, but I just know I was tired of enabling them any further with my hard earned money. We instead put our money into season passes at the Dr Phillips Center for Performing Arts - at least there I know I'll get good performances and full effort to show my kids how to work and try.

I know you all are in for the tank and it makes strategic sense, but for the ticket holders who pay to see the games during this extended rebuild, it is just a bad investment.

Season ticket renewals will send the message. Outside of that, viewership isn't a big deal and attendance is actually quite high this year at Amway I think.

Honestly people may just need to stop going to the games until chit changes. The 9-17 home record is almost worse than the nets and second worse in the league. This product we have right now is just not cutting it. This team gives no effort and has no direction. Until serious changes are made such as NBA players giving consistent effort I see no reason for fans to continue to go.

I think the only reason we see attendance up this year is because they promised and went all in for the playoffs. We need major changes starting from the top. Something needs to happen.

I'm in the same boat, I haven't cancelled yet as I accepted the invite to a luncheon for Tuesday and wanted to wait until that day, but I haven't gotten a confirmation, maybe they cancelled it after the whole previous luncheon fiasco, lol.

I was already thinking of canceling because of the horrible year, the only way I saw myself renewing is if they were like "we understand it's been a really bad year, so for your commitment you will get XX% discounted from your season ticket prices as an apology for our awful performance. Thanks for supporting the team and hope to see you back." But no they went the opposite direction and jacked up the prices yet again and this time by a steep amount, I don't know how they can justify that price increase with this years performance.

Whilst I'm always a little jealous of those who live in Orlando and therefore have access to season seats, I completely agree with what you've done. I sometimes think people forget about the 'entertainment' element of sports. Teams don't have to win but they have to at least put forth a decent effort otherwise what is the point of sitting there for 2 1/2 hours 41 times a season and paying for the privilege?

It will be another 4-6 years before this team can even be a top 4 conference team again, so may as well save your money until then before buying season tickets. Best bet now is to buy single games off Snubhub or Scalpers for a night out every now and then.

We're a fickle fan base aren't we. When we lose, the fans leave. When we win, they come back.

That's not fair - I've been there for years through the rebuild and plenty of losses - I'm leaving now because I see no plan and no effort. I've put tens of thousands of dollars (personal not business so I can't write it off) into this franchise - I have the right to withdraw my financial support if I don't see the value in it and lack confidence in their ability to improve

I totally get it. We just all have to admit that we are what we are. A fan base with very high expectations.

We don't have enough deep interest in our team to sustain us through tough times like the Lakers, Yankees or Cowboys. My thing is... I really don't get why there is a threshold of 5 years where at that point enough is enough. Rebuilding takes a long time... that's the nature of sports.

But nooooo... FIRE VAUGHN!!! 2 years in an this fickle fan base already wanted a winner! Vaughn's 3rd year was make or break for him with this whinny fan base.

We half assed our rebuild because our fans demanded a winner and we lost out on elite prospects.

Return to Orlando Magic
