Jahlil Okafor has played terrible basketball this season but when you look at his skillset and profile there is still a ton to like. it's still early enough in his career where he could turn it around. The problem is keeping him motivated and getting the most out of him.

Personally, I've lost trust in him but the talent has always been there. Take a look around the league there are a ton of guys where you can't say the same which are top picks.

Which is why we've seen a ton of interest. In any case lets see what the offers are. There are rumors the lakers are also interested and would drop protection on the pick I assume there would be more but we'll have to wait.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Brutal if true. I'm fine signing him over the summer but it makes very little sense to trade for him now. It just seems like a poor understanding of success cycles and a waste of value.

Maybe they want his Bird Rights. Unless you don't get Bird Rights for a trade at the deadline. I forget the specifications of it.

I generally agree, they better not give up any 1st round picks in the deal or anything. If so, it would be the worst trade ever, when you can just sign him in the summer.

I'm actually surprised he said that. Makes me think it's imminent.

Okafor apparently will sit the next two games as trade talks continue to progress.

I said this in the trade forum, I dont think Ive ever seen a coach/team so upfront about a trade of one of their players

The Lakers are rumored as well...what could they offerthat is appealing?

Personally, I love Jrue, but if it's another team does Crabbe or Russell have more value???

I don't see much value in his bird rights for us. We're not going to be over the cap and I doubt we're going to want to offer him a 5 year max. Is there some other reason that I'm ignoring?

Shrewd move. Don't let that guy go out there and sleepwalk through ANOTHER game like he did against Orlando. These interested teams are obviously not very bright but even a chimp will pick up on it eventually.

This is also not a bad idea either just from an standpoint of extracting value. Now the entire league knows we are close to trading Okafor (rather then just shopping him) if there are multiple teams interested the immediacy of a potential trade maybe the impetus necessary to get them to submit their best offers.

Only other thing I can think of is a) they want to preview how Jrue looks with Simmons and Embiid for a month so they feel more comfortable about signing him to a mega deal or b) all the other offers out there are horrible, and the Pelicans only other offer is lotto protected picks that eventually turn into 2nd rounders if they don't convey and this is simply the best deal on the table.

Lakers have some nice young players and potential to remove top 3 protection, but I don't see a great match. Doubt the give up the assets I'd want.

I'd do Russell for Okafor in a heartbeat, but I doubt the Lakers would now. Although he hasn't progressed this season like they thought. A ton of talk about him being a 20+ppg scorer before the season from them and his 3 point % isn't as good as they expected. But I doubt it. If there is any shot to get him, we'd probably have to take Mozgov's contract back.

Magic Johnson wants to make a big splash and now has control of personnel decisions. As far as to what they have available? A ton. They could remove protection plus offer a lesser piece like a protected pick or Clarkson. Ingram. Russell.

Gotta be Clarkson if the Lakers are involved.

I don't think D-Lo is that good but I don't think Okafor is good at all, so a no-brainer.

Lakers fan here. I can confirm to you all we are not trading Russell.

Mitch reached out like he does to every team.

The only member of our young core you could even get is Jordan Clarkson. You would have to remove the protection on the pick in exchange for a young experienced guard.

That's hella awkward. Wonder if he'll have to sit on the bench like he did tonight.

Jake Pavorsky reporting that Okafor told teammates he's feeling he's about to be traded soon.
