Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
http://www.denverpost.com/2017/02/12/jusuf-nurkic-nuggets-trade-portland-mason-plumlee/
We send Memphis 2017 for a 2018 2nd pick plus we get some of our owner's favorite thing: cash.
The article includes a "weird" statement regarding this year's draft:
"With assets to move, and a 2017 free-agent class short on impactful names but long on available money, the move to secure Plumlee’s restricted rights played a huge role in the Nuggets trade as well. Outside of “stars” it would have been difficult for the Nuggets to find a better compliment to Jokic, and a guy when he’s out of the game can play the same way. And at 26 years old, he’s of ideal age to grow with the young core."
Don't forget; Plumlee is a RFA this year, so he'll probably get a hefty check or be gone.

It's not bad for the short term. But no reason for us to chuck a first rounder.

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
I really like Plumlee's fit here. Denver now has two of the top 5 passing big men in the league, and he's undoubtedly an upgrade over Nurkic, at least in the short term.
Could be a great trade for Portland if Nurkic get's his head on straight and pans out, but let's be honest, that was never going to happen here. And we had no need whatsoever for that pick anyway.

Does the article mention the oddity of trading with a team that we're fighting for the 8th seed with, or how by potentially solving Portland's problems with Nurkic, we'd be conceding the 8th seed and would be best off tanking out the rest of the season for a 6th OVR at best.

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
From everything I've read about Nurkic's unprofessional attitude this is an addition by subtraction move in regards to including the Memphis 1st.
I have the feeling Nurkic is only looking to sign a big contract and then tune the game out kind of like Andris Biedrins did in GSW.
Give it a few years and it'll feel like you dodged a bullet by getting something for Nurkic in retrospect.

Yuck I don't feel good about giving plumlee a max deal and giving up a late first rounder just to get rid of nurkic.

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
I do like Plumlee - he's got some good talent, but for the Nuggets, he's going to be a backup center. He's not a 3pt shooting stretch and he's not a good FT shooter. He will get some rebounds. Overall, his statline is eerily similar to Nurkic's. Nice thing is, he's never been reported to have an attitude issue (as far as I can tell).

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
You don't have to give Plumlee a max deal. Someone has to offer him that first, before you decide to match. This is to see if Plumlee can play next to Jokic. I personally like it, because they need athleticism that is taller to play next to him. Plumlee is nothing else, will rim-run.
Being willing to give up the Grizz pick seems to indicate that the Nuggets feel they have enough youth (Jokic, Harris, Mudiay, Murray, Hernangomez, Beasley, 2017 draft pick, Cornelie.) If they kept that pick and Cornelie comes over, they'd have 9 guys still on rookie deals. Way too many.

Plumlee is a far superior passer and can rim run as mentioned just above this post as opposed to the more ground bound plodding game of Nurkic.

Oh no doubt IF they can play together defensively it's a heck of a passing game they've got going.
Especially since the nuggets guards can't pass. It will be interesting watching an offense this inverted

Loved Plumlee in Portland. He's a smart player that does the little things on offense. Athletic. Good teammate. I'm gonna miss him.

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
Nelson/Murray/Mudiay
Barton/Harris
Gallinari/Chandler
Faried/Hernangomez/Arthur
Jokic/Plumlee
Still way too many players and not enough top end talent.
I'd really like to see them move some combination of Faried, Mudiay, and Chandler for one playoff caliber starter.
If they have to attach a first round pick so be it.
I'm not certain plumlee and jokic work together but I think it's worth a shot. Plumlee has more athleticism in his testichips than nurkic has in his entire body

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
Looks like they plan to initially try Jokic and Plumlee together for 12 minutes/game.
I think they could be okay defensively.
Murray, Barton/Harris, Gallinari, Plumlee, Jokic is like 130 pts per 100 possessions so maybe defense won't even matter

Re: Mason Plumlee for Jusuf Nurkic
Defense isn't the problem with Plumlee. If he's playing next to Jokic, offense is the problem. He needs to be down low or the opposition will play off from him. He's not a long-range shooter. If he plays down low, he clogs the middle, slowing down any cutters. There's the problem. He's not a good fit next to Jokic IMO.
Second string does a little better at dealing with these issues because they've been playing more with Nurkic.

This was my question for the Nuggets too. Plumlee take maybe one jumper a game... maybe. Most all his points come around the basket with tipins and dunks. So with all the talk of Plumlee and Jokic playing together, I just don't see that working out well. I also question how he's gonna fit in with Malone's system. From what I've heard, you guys don't run many pick and rolls which is going to really limit his offensive game and if he's nothing but a backup to Jokic, his minutes will be so limited that he's gonna struggle to produce like he did in Portland.
I'll miss Plumlee and hope the best for him in Denver, but I'm fairly worried for his overall fit on the Nuggets.

Well how about that, we made a move. Immediate reaction is I like it....IF Malone plays him. Needed a bench C that would get minutes and Nurk wasn't. I had been high on Nurk but the last 2 months he sunk his valve and didn't play hard. Plumlee an upgrade at least in the short-term.
Moving the 1st doesn't bother me, anyone we would have taken would have been buried on the bench and there are too many buried as it is.
Nurkic will def look to beast against us 3-4 times a year going forward, should make those games entertaining.

I am not a fun of trading players to the teams in the same conference, but I don't think Nurkic is a big game changer , he will also need a lot of time to adjust to Portland system of play , we don't know how long will take Plumlee to adjust to Nuggets , but Nuggets still can be relatively successful with only Jokic at center , because Nurkic was non factor this season for the Nuggets , I think Portland will miss Plumlee a lot in the short run this season.
