Gotta come up with all that scratch to pay Plumlee somehow....

Ehh, it is a business and I am guessing that walk up sales have slowed considerably as the team has bombed out lately.
At this point we ought to tank the season without "officially tanking". Getting into the top ten or even the top 3 if we got lucky for once would be a LOT better going forward then seizing the 8th seed with a late push.

Perhaps then the timing is relevant. Why take that pick off the table as an asset for a deadline trade deal unless you were pretty sure you weren't going to use it?

I learned on the T&T board that this is not accurate - apparently you can trade multiple rights to the same pick, based solely on where the pick lands.

Yeah, just last year we traded our second to OKC, but had it fell beyond pick 55 it would've gone to San Antonio via the old Theo Ratliff trade.

How protected is this pick? I remember we traded a pick and got Theo Rattliff. The deal is that if we were to win the chip we have to give up the pick. What type of protection goes with this pick?

They could use the money to sign a veteran for one-third the season at the veteran's minimum. This team has a leadership deficit.

Im 99.9% positive the veteran's minimum doesnt count against your cap.

And im 99% positive the Hornets dont even pay the veterans minimum service years above and beyond the ABSOLUTE minimum salary in the league.

In other words if the absolute minimum salary is $350k, but Andersons minimum salary for 10+ years of service is $1m.... the hornets pay $350k and the players union or something picks up the $650k tab differential.

Otherwise cheapskate teams like phoenix and Atlanta would just fill the rosters out with rookie minimum guys every year and tons of deserving veterans would be left off rosters .

No need to get panties in a wad. With $0 in playoff revenue looking extremely likely (i doubt we can force a game 6 this year) we need cash inflows anywhere we can get them to improve this roster

You do realize games 3 and 4 of any seven game series would be in Charlotte?

So, does this pick stay as owed to CLE or if it doesn't convey this year then they don't get anything?

This is just one of those trades for the hell of it. No point in doing this deal.

You dont get to keep the gate receipts from games 3 and 4 those go to the league to be divided up.

Gotta at least make it to game 6

Then there is definitely no need to try to make the playoffs this season. I hope cheapskate MJ is aware of this.
