Re: Marcus Smart
Smart has always been tremendous but his skill set keeps improving and winning people over. The PG position is really set between Smart & IT, which is why I would not be surprised to see us trade our BK pick this year, for improvements on the wing or down low with Horford. It's got to be the right player, which may be difficult, but it just wouldn't surprise me at all.

I agree. I'm not dealing Marcus. I would rather have 12 Marcus' than 12 Beals, if that makes sense.

I keep the BK17 unless we are getting an Anthony Davis guy in return. At this point we essentially KNOW that we'll have the best odds at the #1 pick. If we need to consolidate assets/players to acquire a bigtime player than why not JBrown/AB/BK18 as the centerpiece. That should get you a star player in return this offseason if that's the route Ainge decides to take. Let's say we land #3 again which this year is basically worst case scenario....We draft Josh Jackson. We trade Brown/Bradley/BK18 for a star big man.
We sign Hayward.

Whatever he ends up as, it's been fun watching him come into his own and develop a confidence since the the new year that he hasn't shown since college.

Trading the pick is cool and all but what player is out there that is going to be more valuable than someone like Fultz or Jackson on a rookie deal? Jimmy Butler isn't as valuable (2 more years at 19 million, then he's not gonna pick up his player option), Paul George (one more year then a player option he won't pick up), I'm not seeing anyone unless it's a bonafide top-10 player on a long term deal and why would anyone trade such a player?

Um the more shocking thing here is Marcus' career home/road splits:
Home:
7.7/3.7/3.6 on .316/.280/.786 with a 43.4%TS
Road:
10.2/3.3/3.9 on .405/.318/.706 with a 52.2%TS
Usually young guys/most guys play better at home. Marcus is such a weird dude...

Re: Marcus Smart
He's ray lewis in the making. His percentages have been going up and up too as he has been more assertive offensively. I love that we have him playing down low and on curls. He can score. His percentages the last few weeks have been very good. From the line as well. We've won a ton in a row because of his contributions as well.
He plays defense like a middle linebacker or strong safety and is athletic and talented enough where he'd be a great running back too. His shooting is coming and has been quite good of late.
Tommy loves guys that can find the blue sky and do the little things and Smart is that. He's clutch too. If the officials would get off him and let him play he'd be even better. He makes game winning plays at the end of games and at crucial times all the time.
Am I hyping up Smart enough for you? Love Brown too and AB and Crowder. I love Marcus playing like he is right now though. He keeps getting better too.

If Marcus isn't all nba defense this year there is something seriously wrong with the league though.

Re: Marcus Smart
Marcus still has All-star potential in my opinion. He's an absolute dog on defense and his offensive game is clearly improving. I'll never forget being at that playoff game last year when he switched onto Millsap and absolutely shut him down. One us that game in a lot of ways.

He's been our 2nd best 3-point shooter, %-wise the past 9 games -- 12/32 from 3 (40.6%) behind... Amir hehe.
Where did you get this stat from?
Nothing close from what im looking at...
I love Marcus and hope this is true just wondering where you got 40% from and what sample...
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

You have to backtrack from a couple of days ago when I made the post. Stats.NBA.com was my source and it was only a 9-game sample.

Re: Marcus Smart
Would anyone argue he is our 2nd best, if not most important player?
He is as close to untouchable to me as it gets - he is a mini Draymond with a sprinkle of Billups + Artest.
Brown may one day surpass him due to raw ability, athleticism, equal drive and potential but Smart looks like our best prospect right now. there is no one like him in the NBA.

Got it... from January 25 to February 9. Due to the fickle nature of tiny samples, he's now down to about 32.5% the last 9 games lol.

Re: Marcus Smart
The Smart-Payton debate seems like ages ago, Payton isn't even a starter in Orlando. Not sure if Smart is really a point guard but, whatever position he does play he does it well.

Marcus Smart - turned the corner, or just a good stretch?
We all know Smart has always brought a positive influence on the defensive end since we drafted him. But since the start of February, it seems like we are seeing a different player out there.
In 8 games:
12.7 pts, 4.3 asts, 4.0 rebs, 2.6 steals
But most importantly he's shooting 45.8% from the field, 31.4% from 3pt range and 80% from the FT line.
So what are your thoughts, is this Smart turning the corner on the offensive end of the floor kind of like back when we saw AB make that decisive turn? Has he figured out how to make an impact on the offensive end of the floor? Or do you think this is just a good stretch that he is bound to return to the levels of poor shooting and no impact on that end of the floor?
Because, if this actually is Smart figuring out the offensive game in the NBA, he becomes an insanely valuable player in this league. What are your thoughts?

Re: Marcus Smart - turned the corner, or just a good stretch?
Smart has been solid for three years. not really turning a corner or anything. some gradual improvement in his shooting. Smart has been a solid offensive player for a while. shooting % is one aspect of that.

Can't say he turned the corner with that sample size. His value is directly correlated to his ceiling on offense though.

Prime Tony Allen vs. current Marcus Smart -- I'll take Marcus, thank you very much.
