Colangelo pulled a card from the bottom of the deck trying to increase Okafors trade value. Didnt work. No big deal.

No one met Colangelos reserve price for Okafor and he did the right thing by pulling him back and not giving him away.

Well done Colagelo. And dont listen to the radio tomorrow. Those blowhards are going to have a meltdown

This was unnecessary.

Did BC put Okafor on Ebay the past week? I guess a bidder did match his reserve price but then had cold feet and withdrew the bid. So now Okafor is back playing with the Sixers.

I get the whole reason for holding out Embiid (the torn meniscus seems like a phantom injury to me) and Simmons for the rest of the year, as it seems to me that they clearly want to tank for a higher pick (although TJ, Saric, Noel and company are obviously screwing it up right now) so I don't understand why BC is in such a rush to move Okafor at the deadline if that's the plan. Personally, I would just wait until the offseason to unload Okafor. It's not like his value is going to change much either way between now and then. If anything, the most valuable thing he can help us acquire is our own pick in the top 5. Aside from that, he is what he is at this point. A good low post scorer who plays matador D and can't rebound to save his life. I'm sure most astute GMs around the league have figured that much out already.

Maybe BB was just running with the idea of trading Okafor with BC having no such intention. Who knows what happens within this kooky franchise.

From my experience living in a country where barganing for your daily groceries / stuff is the norm, this seems like the "walk away move" where you are prepared to proceed without it hoping for one last desperate offer before either resuming normal life or settling for the previous offer.

just part of the bargaining game.

That said, BC seems to be pretty bad at this game.

I feel sorry for Jah, but I'm not making such a big deal out of this as most of you guys do. If he's still here after the trade deadline then I will join the Bryan Colangelo riot.

I think this is the first time I have ever seen something like this happen. I've seen trades go through that were vetoed or nixed because of a failed physical, but I have never seem a situation quite like this where a player is held out due to an impending trade, and then simply just invited back to continue playing. I feel for this kid, I'm sure he was getting his hopes up about a change of scenery, and he'll eventually get it, but damn....what a mind screw this has to be.
"Aaigght big guy, we're trading you, see ya later....No.....Wait.....Not yet, but soon....tomorrow maybe....possibly......erm...hold up.... okay, just joking, we're not moving you, sorry....Oh hey can you play against Boston on Wednesday? We need to get that value back up".

Screw that, if I were him I'd check out too. I understand the circumstances, but damn....BC is really showing how much of a monumental clown he is capable of being.

Agreed. Terrible way to handle the situation. I wish Okafor was better than he is, but he's not. I wish he'd show a bit more effort on the court, but he doesn't. However, he has handled a difficult situation well and has not been a distraction. This just makes Colangelo look like he doesn't know what he's doing. This is not how a well run organization does things.

there's obviously alot more going on here - they can't be leaving jah in the shadows too or his people would be buggin, right?

the most obvious answer:

Bulls (or pels) had a strong, or reasonable offer for jahlil. It's pending on them getting a third team to take on Lopez (or asik/ajinca) but the deal was agreed upon on principal. They requested jahlil not play because he was basically theirs, maybe even asked to send a doctor out because BC has been caught in the past week lying about injuries/sixers past trade with jrue and that lie.

a - The two parties were not able to find a third team to take on Lopez (or Asik/Ajinca) or they couldn't give back the first rounder they were looking for. trade talk halted, but is not dead.

b- The medical staff found serious red flags in jah's knee and either nixed the trade completely or severely lowered the price.

c- BC is delusional and changed his request last min, making the trade talks come to a hault. or tried to play tough and leverage the teams against the blazers and the blazers went a different way.

My best guess is scenario A. Jah knew exactly what the offer was, what team he was going to, and was told just to wait... that they were waiting on a third team to take their current center so he could come in and play.
He was probably cool with it too (esp if it was the bulls) - it's the only thing that makes logical sense.

Now, they realize the deal may not be completed until next week - and he's got to play in the rising stars game in a sixers jersey - so they said do you want to come back and play in the mean time? (may still sit on the bench so no injury?)

TLDR - deal is waiting on third team to take Lopez (or a pelican big) and jah knows what the deal is exactly. aka "transparency"

One other possibility to throw out there - BC is going to trade another big (Nerlens, Holmes, Illy, or Saric) today and knew he would need another big just to get through today's game.

When your GM is THE Man of Action, you got to be ready for all possibilities.

This whole situation has become a circus.

I still think he is moved by the deadline, but I guess we shall see.

That is about the only thing that I can think of that makes any sense here. There was a deal that he would accept, and then the team backed out. If there was a better deal in the works I think that Bryan would leak it to get the pressure off of him.
