The Pistons could target a distressed young point guard like Elfrid Payton or Emmanuel Mudiay, and snag a rental wing to make up the salary gap. Mudiay is available, per several league sources, though it appears Denver has no interest in Jackson. Orlando remains an intriguing fit; Rob Hennigan, the Magic GM, was part of the Thunder front office that drafted Jackson, and the team is starting freaking C.J. Watson over Payton.
If Payton doesn't float Van Gundy's boat, the Pistons could reunite with D.J. Augustin. Jrue Holiday could ignite another point guard shuffle if he indicates he won't re-sign in New Orleans; the Pelicans have kicked the tires on Jackson, league sources say, though nothing ever got serious.
They might even flip Jackson for an extra wing -- Mario Hezonja and filler, perhaps? -- ride out the season with Smith, and fill the point guard hole later. But wings are in demand, and teams aren't going to flip proven ones for Jackson right now.

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
I enjoy Reggie's swag and confidence, but i'm too much a fan of Elf to give up on him his 3rd year in the league, and under his 3rd head coach. But, what do I know? I definitely wouldn't give up Elf & Mario for him. I'd give up Augustin & the 1st we got from Tor for Jackson (haven't looked at salaries yet).

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
I am almost certain this happens. I think Elfrid knows his days here are numbered. Of course we're not going to deal him for nothing and just because we are open to moving him doesn't mean he will be by the deadline. I think if he's not by next week he will be on the block for sure at the draft.
He's fed up with our organization and rightfully so. We've just come to a point where there is too much drama for it to work. You can hear it in Payton. He's not surprised by anything with us anymore.

Reggie Jackson is intriguing, but i prefer Jrue Holiday or Bledsoe. We need to upgrade at the point guard position, no doubt.

I feel the same way. His interviews as of late sort of lead up to the fact that he would prefer a different team to be on.

Three coaches got fed up with him too. As well as a lot of fans including myself. Was not a fan when he was drafted, and don't feel any different now. I think he's a very good back up and that's about it.

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
I know Elf's days are numbered but Reggie Jackson is not the answer. Plus hes got 3 more years after this year on his contract at 15+ per. Your basically saying he is the PG of the Magic future. No thanks.

Rob in his presser after the Ibaka trade to Toronto did state we were fighting for the playoffs still. I just hope that was all a ruse because I would be very upset if we trade assets for Reggie Jackson.

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
Reggie Jackson is the Alpha guard this team could use. Payton/Green for Jackson works salary wise. That would certainly be selling Jackson really low...They'd probably want a pick too. Jackson is 26...same age as Ross and would make us really interesting I think (next year).

If we get Ball, Fultz or Smith in the draft then we can part with Elf but I'm not ready for that yet and surely not for Reggie Jackson.

If we give up that package, it leaves us light at PF. To play along, Elf/Green/Tor pick for Jackson & Ellenson? Granted, I don't know how the rookie is viewed up there.
Maybe BMF can share some knowledge.

If we're giving up on Elf, just draft one of the great PGs in the upcoming draft

Then you can kiss a solid pick in the draft next year then. He'll help us enough to where we miss the playoffs and pick anywhere from 10-14. No thanks.

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
Reggie has 3.5 years left on an $80M deal.
I want no part of him while Elf is continuing to develop on a rookie deal and we are looking at a fantastic PG draft class coming up.

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
The mention of "three different coaches" on Elf's development is Bull****.
The guy's shooting su***.
Shooting is something you develop in HS and college.
His form looks like a catapault-launcher tipping over.

Re: Magic and.....Reggie Jackson?
I cant imagine Detroit lets Jackson go for so little. I thought the contract was bloated when he signed it, but with the NBA cap rising Jackson's deal looks to be fine. Payton/Green is little more then a salary dump for Detroit...despite what the EP fans on here might think.

It all depends. Reggie can be fools gold. There are times when he will take over in the 4th quarter and win the game on his own. Those times do happen. But, most of the time he will walk the ball up the court, hold onto the ball way too long and force shots with the clock running down. He doesn't move the ball as much as one would like. He looks to be very poor on defense, but that is mostly effort because he expends so much gas on offense. He will look winded out there often. But, in big games, all of a sudden he will play good defense. Thus, the effort for all around game isn't always there. But, he is capable of being a great PG in the NBA if he truly became a team player.
This season has been bad for him since he is still recovering from injury and one can notice him limping out there at times. I think he came back too early from injury which had him sit out the first two months of the season. Eventually, he will get back to Reggie from last year that tore it up. If he can buy into team concept and put out effort to share the ball and play team defense, he could be great. Because, in between those games of greatness, there are plenty of games of disappointment.

He does have a really bad shooting stroke. AG on the other hand seems to have a decent one and I am still holding out hope it gets better because I think it can.
