I heard he wants more money then Barry Zito got. Could the cubs afford that?

I'm still confident he'll be re-signed, and he still seems upbeat about the prospect of them re-signing him. No, it won't be for Zito-like money, the point of a contract extension is to get a hometown discount. He'll get more than Buehrle got, probably 5 years/~70M with a no-trade clause and maybe an option year.

Obviously, it would be a grievous mistake if he wasn't re-signed, and done so quickly. I think it was still up in the air when he wasn't pitching well and the Cubs were struggling, but those days have come and gone (fortunately).
