Re: Fake Trade Thread 16/17 pt.1
If this team traded Kemba it would lose a LOT of fans (including myself), not crack 30 wins for years and definitely end up in Seattle or Kansas City. Or Las Vegas.

The support for Kemba seems a lot stronger here than it does to the casual fans I talk to. I was wondering if getting named to the all-star game would change that. IDK given that the team seems to be unable to win currently.
As for the team moving ... I suspect that the biggest impediment would be the lease that the City forced the Bobcats to sign way back when. It's a 25 year deal and losses would have to be significant for them to even consider breaking it given the penalties written in for early termination.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Considering any faults he could have Kemba is still the face of our franchise and really just about its only bright spot. Literally all of my friends who are casual fans list Kemba as their favorite player. And that's a listing of people from all over the Carolinas.

Of course Kemba is everyone's favorite player. He's my favorite player too.
That doesnt mean I would be opposed to dealing him if the return was lucrative enough to improve the future prospects of the franchise beyond second tier mediocrity.
Trading Kemba would certainly present a PR challenge though since they use him as the promotional face of the franchise

I have no faith that the team management can put together a deal like that that would genuinely make the team better than having a 26-year-old All-Star point guard as its focal point. Any deal made would, as is usually the case with our team, be a far better deal for whoever is trading with us.

It would be like the Panthers, if they didn't have Luke, trading Cam.

Re: Fake Trade Thread 16/17 pt.1
Surprisingly, the Hornets are playing ok on the offensive end of the court. Lately their struggles have really been on the defensive end. As Clifford says, they seem to have lost their identity. Their weakest spots seem to be at shooting guard and PF. Jordan isn't a "give up and start over" fan, so they'll probably be looking to take veterans to try and salvage a spot in the East.
At this point, I see MKG as a good piece to trade, because despite his hustle, the team isn't up to snuff defensively. Marvin is also a player to move, because his great year of last year is looking like an outlier. Same with Jeremy Lamb. He's nowhere near the player who earned the contract he's on. In fact, he's LAST among shooting guards in Defensive Real +/- https://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM/position/2
So, let's try 2 moves:
1) MKG to Boston for Amir Johnson and a pick. Upgrades the PF spot, gives Boston a body to try and contain King James in the playoffs, and they have enough shooting to compensate for MKG's lack of it.
2) Marvin and Lamb for Aaron Afflalo and Willie Cauley-Stein. None of these contracts are expiring soon, but all of these guys could use a change in scenery.
Your starting 5 would be: Kemba, Afflalo, Batum, Amir Johnson, Cauley-Stein or whoever is healthy that night.

I agree with everything you said until you get to the actual deals.
1) Unless it's Brooklyn's pick for some reason I hate this. While not super high MKG has to have better value than that, and if he doesnt he still has greater value than that to us surely...
2) I'm not sure Afflalo is any better than Lamb and he certainly has no upside, only downside IMO. I'm ok with WCS but what makes you think he'd start over Cody, or at this point maybe even Frank (!)
I just dont think either move really helps us this year OR in the future...I'd like at least one of those if I bother doing a trade.

Not really any specific ones. Just a be patient thing. I know no team will take Plumlee without a first attached to him. I'm not sure we'd get rid of Nic or Marvin this soon, who knows what MKG's value is to the rest of the NBA so that leaves Lamb and our first. If it is some crappy move that barely gets us swept in the first round of the playoffs them I'm done. The only way I'd be fine with it is if Cho got Cousins or Drummond or some other franchise piece, I just have a sick feeling he will buy high on Afflalo or Wilson Chandler as some kind of a perceived bandaid "quick fix."

Re: Fake Trade Thread 16/17 pt.1
I know we're not likely to trade these guys already, but I can't shake the thought that some form of Batum and Marvin for Love makes sense for both teams (I know more money has to come from Cleveland to make it work).
Not sure exactly how each player is valued right now, but Love is injured and Cleveland wants another playmaker (Batum). Marvin would obviously replace Love at the 4.
Cleveland makes a run while we tank with Love and Zeller recovering. Then we enter next season with two all-stars and a top ten pick.
Wishful thinking, but I think this makes more sense than the standard fan-trade.

Honestly I've thought that Marvin to Cle in any sort of Love trade, even if it wasn't to Clt, made sense for them for a long time too.

Love's injury history worries me, but I'd still be all about that trade.

If we trade Kemba for basically any sort of 'name' player bonus points if player is from NC ACC school) most of the casuals will be happy to help Kemba pack his bags I would think.

I'm a little surprised people are even talking about trading Miles. That's obviously not going to happen.

Intriguing suggestion. Agree such a proposal would benefit both teams
Kyrie
Batum
Lebron
Marvin
Thompson
Adds fire power for Cleveland and gives them another legit shot against Golden State.
Walker
Lamb / marco
Tatum (or Isaac) via top 7 pick obtained via tanking / MKG
Love / Zeller / wood
Frank / Plumblee

No other team is dumb enough to take on his dead weight.

You've gotta believe they're having some degree of buyers remorse, even this early.
