Terrence Ross
There's been all sorts of talk on this board in the last few days about the trade, ibaka, who didn't get along with ibaka, the never ending complaining about Hennigan.. and martins... and now vogel, Reggie jackson, and most recently (and possibly most ridiculous) orlando turning down a trade for cousins earlier this year.
Wow. It's been busy here!
I for one am glad to see the fan base so active on here.
Let's focus on the future though.
How does everyone see Terrence Ross fitting in with the magic?
Are we going to see him with the green light and the kid that went off for 51 a couple years ago?
How does his arrival affect the rest of the team?
Are we any better off with him than we would be with serge?

Re: Terrence Ross
Im quietly hoping he can have a Harrison Barnes type breakout with us. I dont see many weaknesses in his game.

We aren't better today, but we got rid of a guy that wasn't going to be part of our future. I don't know whether Ross will be closer to Gerald Green (a guy that's really just best served as a backup no matter who he plays with) or Dion Waiters with the Heat this year (seize the opportunity to be more of a focal point on a less talented team), but as long as he plays hard I'm cool with having him on the squad.

Re: Terrence Ross
I like him already and he hasn't even suited up for us. Just from seeing the quotes he said about AG, embracing the challenge being on this team and putting in the work early to be prepared for the Spurs game before he realized Serge was gonna bitch out, he seems like a guy ready to seize an opportunity presented to him. Looking forward to seeing him play after the AS break.

Time to trade Fournier so Ross can play his natural position, SG.

Trading Ibaka for Ross balances the roster. But this is a talent down-shift.

I know what you saying. But people Who is expecting a break out season are talking about opportunities, playing time and being a 1st or 2nd scoring option. But what are you saying in general is right

Re: Terrence Ross
Total green light at SF...why wouldn't you? He's got the tools, he seems like a nice guy/good teammate...I'd talk to him like we believe he can be the face of the franchise along with AG. Potentially the most exciting young offensive team in the league. I think Harrison Barnes is a good comparison, in terms of untapped blah blah blah...Do I really believe all that? Not really - but worth a shot. If he felt like he was "supposed to score 20 every night" - like Evan believes. He's got the tools. If he developed a killer instinct to attack the rim and play D, a quest for greatness...he's at the right age to break out and blame his lack of previous opportunity. This has become a league of 120-114 games. You can limit the guy you're covering to 22 and win if you score 26...Release the hounds!

We already saw how terrible that was for us last year when Dipo played SG.

Face of the franchise??? I don't like that idea. I think Ross could be a very good player for us and do more than what he did in TOR, but it'd be the wrong thing to do to fill his brain with ideas that he is our star player and face of the franchise guy that we have been looking for. That's the mistake we did with Fournier and Vuc. Now their egos are out of check. Ross is a JJ Redick, JR Smith, Danny Green type of player... Very good players, mind you... But he's not James Harden, T-Mac or Kobe Bryant. He's a streaky long range shooter who can dunk. He's not an iso guy who attacks a crowded floor, draws fouls (actually he abhors contact), he doesn't commands a double, nothing close to being a passer, nor does he rebound or rack up blocks or steals on the defensive end. The reason why he would fit us at SG is because he can have a solid role there that where he can have the green light to shoot and on the defensive end his position would be at the top of the key, where he run the break and help us get more fast break opportunities. He doesn't have to worry about passing, rebounding or driving into the post. That kind of multidimensional play is what we would want out of our SF. He's not that. He's shown that he can accept his role. We need to harness that because it's rare. If we tell him he's the face of the franchise, that's going to be a huge mistake for us in the long run.

The world doesn't end today.
Ross makes $10.5M next year.
Ibaka likely makes $25M next year.
I don't expect us to sign a star, but Ross + $15M in spending could close the possible talent gap here.

Skin. Skybox said very clearly that we should talk to him like he CAN be the face of the franchise. There's a big difference in telling a guy you CAN be and you are the face of the franchise. It's been an overwhelming belief that the ibaka/dipo trade didn't pan out. (I still think long term we're better off with ross than dipo) rob has been heavily criticized for both ibaka trades. At the very least he got a young players on a decent contract and a first round pick back. If he has any chance of looking like a genius here it and saving his job then ross playing big minutes and putting up good numbers is his best chance. Theres no doubt in my mind ross comes in like Tobias did and becomes somewhat of a focal point. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays more minutes than anyone else on the roster after the allstar break.

I hope he plays well enough so that we sit Fournier. Bring him off the bench where he belongs.

That's what I meant (and said)...Just let him know he'll get every opportunity to show he can take over a game. If he doesn't choose to transform into that, cool. I like Skin's analysis of what he's done so far and the contribution he could make at that continued level. I just look at where we are and say "Here's your shot, kid" (in the short term). I'd say the same for Mario...Call it tanking or call it seeing if there's anything inside these guys that hasn't been brought out with their limited roles. low risk, high reward.
