Paul George to Orlando in 2018?

Post#1 » by orthoman » Sun Feb 19, 2017 1:17 pm

Does anyone think there is a "master plan" by Hennigan and Vogel to land Paul George in 2018?

...the evidence....

1. Larry Bird is now dangling a 2017 first round pick to get PG help; a desperation move?
2. PG is keeping his options open regarding a new Pacer contract?
3. PG is close to Frank Vogel
4. Are we trading for Reggie Jackson to help lure PG here? RG is an ex-roommate of PG.

thoughts?

We would have to make an astronomical leap next season to lure a FA like Paul George.

Now... if we traded for him this summer...
let paid professionals do their job, don't you try and do it for them...

We've thought we were for sure getting Chris Paul, Paul Millsap, Kevin Durant, Al Horford and probably some others I've mentally blocked out from my memory, because all signs pointed to that being true, so sure, why not add Paul George to that list. You won't really feel the salt added to your wounds when your whole body and soul is burning in a fiery pit of doom, right?

I think knowing Frank as well as us having RJ on the team would maybe be enough to convince his agent to answer our phone call.

Thats it...

Every single time people here thought the Magic were going to get some elite talent to come here, it has never happened. Thus, now that this is out there, I am pretty sure it is just a pipe dream.

Trading all our assets for PG13 does nothing for us now, we become better but not good enough.

Three things need to happen to make a great team:
1) We get lucky and draft a star player. We keep trying until, this happens, which is what the Magic haven't had the patience to do.
2/3) We use our other non star assets/future picks/etc. to get another star player to compliment our draftee.
2/3) By getting those 2 players, we lure a quality/big name free agent.

So in other words, potential scenario, draft well this year, hopefully whomever we draft plays well next year and looks like a potential great player enough to lure PG13 as a free agent and at that point we can use our other assets to make a big trade if we'd like.

It would be great if not everything is based on joke from basketball insiders about Gm picking phones during allstar game.
Would PG be great for Magic? Sure. Is there any reason why Indiana would want to trade him - hell no, he was last night with his teammates supporting his teammate. Where were Fournier, Payton, Vučević and others for Gordon? Too busy doing nothing ?

Come on man... Paul George is IN the all star game. Of course he's going to be there, he didnt just decide to fly from Indy to support his teammate in the dunk contest

Paul George is an all star... of course he's there. Stop reaching for hate on our players.

Lebron is also allstar he wasn't even in arena for Irving as far as i remember?

I just pointed out that George loves Pacers and he is good teammate. Magic , or any other team have no shot at him because he is not getting traded. And that's the name of this topic.

You could make the point without crapping on our players for no reason. Pointing out lebron possibly wasn't there is on topic... pointing out magic players weren't there is off topic nonsense. If any of our guys were participating in an all star event, they would have been at the dunk contest, too. You know, like last year...

not that i give the rumors a lot of credence. But you can be there as a good teammate, and still want to leave because you have a FO trying to force you to play a position you dont want to play and not getting you the help you need.

that said, PG has more help with Turner, Teague and Thad Young than he would have here in Orlando.

Let me guess... Henny's master plan is to lure PG based on warm weather, no state taxes and Disney World...

I think Henny's master plan was to make himself a laughing stock around the league. Screwed up the draft. Screwed up trades. Screwed up FA. 5 years of rebuilding and our biggest hope is now Terrence Ross.

His exact words in the press conference the other day was " I want to play for a winner". We don't qualify as that

It would be silly to "plan" around this idea but it is certainly something you explore the hell out of. If it can be done, you pull the trigger...as long as our 2017 is heavily protected. George isn't going to turn us in to a contender but he turns us in to a team with a real direction and would allow us to actually build a coherent team.
