Am I the only person who doesn't think Chandler will take us from possible contender to championship team?

Surely we have to think bigger. If injuries ruin this season, how does Chandler help us in the coming years or will he be traded in the off-season if we bust, like every other budget SF we failed to turn into a star?

I really don't like these short term band-aid solutions. We need to be pitching something more to Paul to convince him to stay.

I mean, short of the Cavs going mad and gifting Lebron to us for a bunch of our worst contracts, there's no possible way we become a championship favorite over night. But if we can inch closer to it, even if it's still a very long shot, we should definitely do that.

Wouldn't give a '21 pick for Chandler though, and can't see why the Nuggets would even pick up the phone if we didn't start with that.

Chandler is not necessarily much better than Jeff Green if we're being real, so no, I don't think he will move the Clippers from possible contender to championship team, and I don't really think he moves the needle in general. Still, depending on what he would be traded for, he could be an upgrade.

WTF?!

Post#385 » by Ranma » Tue Feb 21, 2017 4:13 am

Read on Twitter

Zach Lowe, ESPN.com (2/20/17)
They have talked intermittently with the Clippers about Blake Griffin in recent weeks, per several league sources, but a deal is extremely unlikely. Griffin will be a free agent this summer, and Boston would probably need official permission to talk to him about his future -- a concession Minnesota allowed Cleveland before the Kevin Love trade. The Clips would ask for a bounty, starting with Jae Crowder and one of the Avery Bradley/Marcus Smart duo, plus picks, per league sources.
...

The Clippers are still kicking the tires on everything, including their pipedream of snaring Carmelo Anthony from the Kazoos without giving up any of their core four guys. They've called about almost every available small forward type, but no one is in a rush to take Jamal Crawford, Austin Rivers, and a distant first-round pick. That won't get them Wilson Chandler, and the Wiz threw their phones on the floor when the Clippers inquired about Otto Porter, per league sources.

(The Nuggets, for their part, are seeking a lottery-protected first-round pick and swap rights on another pick for Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler, sources say. They want that No. 8 spot in the West, but they think they can get it even if they surrender one of those guys.)

The Clippers might be the biggest wild-card in the league over the next five months. Griffin has looked explosive since his return from knee surgery, but L.A. is three games behind Houston for the No. 3 seed with Chris Paul out another few weeks. They have been hopeless against Golden State. They started this season happy, but the mood has soured at points, and they've gone through severe bouts of angst in prior years. Three of their top four players are headed to free agency, and their coach/president hates rebuilding.

WTF, indeed. This would be what I feared the most: Clippers traded Blake Griffin for the rights to Doc RIvers. Total collusion between Doc and Danny to make up for the DeAndre Jordan-for-Kevin Garnett-Coach-Doc trade that was botched by the NBA, further impacted by a ban between the two teams from trading with each other for a year.

I can't see what we would have that Chicago would want for Mirotic. Brice? Diamond?

I only read that part of the Zach Lowe article about Blake as, Boston are doing their due diligence by asking for Blake, Clips are asking for the moon just to start a conversation, thus it's really unlikely anything happens. And obviously, even in the unlikely case something was agreed, the Celtics would want to speak to Blake before they move forward. Which is pretty much what most of us expected, so not a lot there, even if the RealGM wiretap couldn't pass the opportunity to grab their headline.

Though there's always the possibility Wammy is right, and this is all a massive conspiracy plotted half a decade ago and sealed with the blood of some rookies =P

Not sure what the hell we'd do with Mirotic, but if we can get him for cheap-ish, like giving Brice or Stone, or Wes maybe, I'm ok with having him come off the bench. He's a bit warm blooded, but he's young-ish at least, and fits the kind of shooting soft PF Doc likes to bring in from the bench.

Are the Melo rumours dead now?

I would love Mirotic or Crowder but we don't have enough to offer. Obviously parting with Blake will take us further away from contending.

Nice article by Kennedy who goes into detail on the ins and outs of trades, leaked rumors, player profiles, etc. There is also a story about Amar'e Stoudemire at the end that is hilarious.

That is actually a very good read, surprised cause I always found Kennedy bland an uninsightful. The Stoudemire thing is hilarious, talk about outsmarting yourself lol. Interesting what that GM said about the Celtics leaking talks with the Clippers for Blake in an attempt to get Blake pissed at the Clippers FO, so they had a better chance to trade for him.

In general, the current Clippers FO doesn't seem to allow for many leaks, the Jeff Green trade last year came out of nowhere, and I don't remember hearing anything about the Lance or the Redick trades either until they were done. On the other hand, the Austin trade was broadcasted everywhere the whole week, and so was every detail about the trade for Doc and the supposed negotiations for Garnett back then, which tells you the Celtics are a very leaky organization. Something to have in mind when you read rumors.

Mannix and Woj always have a lot of Celtics info...
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

So who are some buy-out candidates that Doc will chase?

Courtney Lee? Ugh, another name that Doc remembers from his Celtics days. Another aging shooting guard who's not good at anything, too. Like Afflalo but even more overrated. If Doc trades a pick for Lee, he needs to be fired immediately.
