Re: The Boogie Watch
I find it interesting that both Boston and Denver didn't get involved with the Boogie sweepstakes.
Boston because they have the assets to get it done and because they are already winning I think the risk of losing Boogie in FA is much less than a team that's losing like the Suns.
Denver because they also have the assets and and a coach that he likes in Malone. Actually the fact that Denver didn't jump on this is a little bit of a red flag to me. I wonder if Malone told their GM to stay away.
It still puzzles me why Sacramento didn't just extend Boogie this summer and give it a go with him for two more years. They owe their 2019 pick to Philly so why not actually try to win for two seasons and if it's not working out then deal Boogie that summer while he would have 3 years left on his deal and go into total rebuild mode then? They must have really wanted him out of that locker room.

Speculating like everyone else, but this might have been DMC choice. Pels with Cousins are likely a playoff team this year. He's never been there before. And he's pairing with a superstar in AD
Suns with Cousins most likely are not good enough for playoffs because we are so far from it atm. Bledsoe might be his buddy, but is not significantly better than Holiday.

That would give them the flexibility this offseason to maybe make a play for Demarcus Cousins. According to Cousins people, he is NOT happy with this trade. He feels like he and Anthony Davis are the same player in a sense that they both need the ball in their hands to be effective. Of course that can changes once they play together.
How does that give us flexibility? To just outright trade Boogie to the Suns for our 1st?
Was also going to mention, this was possibly my silver lining, hoping that this trade is a botched failed experiment and they end up missing the playoffs. Again, they have 30mil tied up in Moore/Asik/Hill. Jrue Holiday will be a free agent who is likely to get 18-20mil a year. Hoping we put together something this offseason or next season where we are look good enough for potential top tier free agents.

THIS is the treadmilling mentality that needs stop. Too many use it as a wet blanket excuse to snot-ly justify any failed attempts to significantly improve. Y'all are so sure GSt is some super team that will reign for the next 5 yrs and are willing to concede. GD Ninnies.
Cousins would have vaulted us into 'the discussion'. No telling how much confidence he would have added to the rest of the squad.
This was a pivotal moment. Either McD was low balling, the Kings were blackballing, or the FO is really high on a top pick. Doesn't matter too much now, but this was a big swing whiff with runners on.
Every move our front office does is a whiff according to you when the fact is you have about 10% of the info that actually goes on.

Whatever you say man. If we could have gotten Cousins at the same price that NOP paid for, then great we can hold hands and sing kumbayah. But we didnt. McD had a clear price for what he was prepared to pay Cousins for, and Sac asked for more than that. I dont see how thats a problem. Cousins wont magically fix what is wrong with the Suns.
And im not justifying anything to anybody. I said what I think is gonna happen if we get Cousins, and why im alright with not getting him. If you dont agree, and rather just bash on McD again then thats your problem.
To be clear, that's hardly a bash on McD..... rather I was pointing out your 'year after year' surrender flag.
What ? Me Worry ?

Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion 3: About Last Knight
Something slightly funny...
We basically could have just traded the #4, #13 pick for #8 and Cousins. Could have taken Chriss (or Bender if he ended up at No 8). Kings could have taken Hield at No 4 and then proceeded to tank the entire year.

I'd worry about the Pels demanding more for Cousins. They would be smarter than the Kings. Hell, maybe they traded for him so they can spin him off for even more assets. I'm sure they would love the Suns offer when you think about it. Adding guys who fit a need AND the Suns 2017 first? Seems to make a bit of sense. But that probably wouldn't be until draft night.

I really wonder what our offer was. Your theory would seem accurate but there has to be something missing here. No matter how stubborn the Kings are, they had to know that the Suns offered them the best option to rebuild.

It would certainly have to be something that gives AD help unless AD and Boogie just can't stand each other and one of them needs to go immediately. Ultimately, the Pelicans don't miss a beat, even if they lose Boogie next offseason, they lost Buddy Hield... THATS IT. They could trade Boogie for our 2017 1st and that would be a win. Maybe flip the pick for Butler, IDK (spitballing).
Or a complete 180, and they want to keep Boogie and trade AD.

It was always the smartest move to try and either trade for him after he re-signs so he is locked into a deal and you don't risk losing him OR in the case he was traded, going after him in FA. He might rather play with Wall, but we are the team with tons of cap space.

Cousins isn't a free agent this offseason.

Let's say Cousins declines an extension in July.
New Orleans then need to consider if they trade him next February.

Never said he was, but the Suns FO understand that in order for anything to happen, they need cap flexibility and assets. Brandon doesn't have any trade value that will bring anything BUT an expiring contract.
Keep in mind, cap flexibility doesn't always necessarily mean FA signing. It could be trading for a big contract without necessarily needing to match salaries.

Didn't realise there's still 3.5 seasons left on Knight's contract.
No wonder the Kings didn't want him.
